The National Institute of Robotic Surgery Presents

Welcome I would like to invite you to The National Institute of Robotic Surgery s 3rd Annual Robotic Surgery Conference entitled Breakthrough Robotic Surgery Techniques Advanced Gynecologic Outcomes. This year s Conference will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown Baltimore on Friday, September 20, 2013 and Saturday, September 21, 2013. The CME program will offer a rich variety of topics of clinical importance to surgeons and other healthcare professionals who face the ever-increasing challenges of clinical diagnoses, treatment options and new technologies involved in caring for the female patient. This year s CME will stand out with more state-of-the-art hands-on sessions, instructive didactic presentations and a symposium featuring the thought-leaders in our profession. I am excited to be collaborating with Drs. Rosenshein, Payne, Pitter and Shariati. Each of the assembled faculty was personally selected by me based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based and practical information. They will be offering their expertise in Pelvic Anatomy, Myomectomy, Hysterectomy and Sacrocolpopexy. I will also be demonstrating advanced robotic techniques in multi-port and single site procedures. The 2 nd day will consist of 2 live surgical cases. I will be performing a multiport hysterectomy for a large fibroid uterus and a single-site hysterectomy case. Directly following each case there will be a full panel discussion. To complete the afternoon, I will be discussing the management of complications in robotic surgery. Enrollment in this year s CME is open to all healthcare practitioners, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants who may be assisting you in the operating rooms. Our conference will provide you with an opportunity to share current ideas with colleagues from across the country. You will take home a wealth of information to help you better care for your female patients. Best Regards, Dwight D. Im, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Course Director

Keynote Speakers Dwight D. Im, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Dr. Im is the Director of The Gynecologic Oncology Center at Mercy in Baltimore which specializes in ovarian, cervical and uterine cancers. Dr. Im is a top-rated gynecologic oncology surgeon who focuses on the patient s whole cancer journey - from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and support. He assembles a patient care team for his patients that includes radiation oncologists, women s imaging, patient education, family members and friends. Dr. Im believes that family and friends play a significant role in patient recovery and involves them in championing each patient s progress, helping to manage her physical, emotional and spiritual needs from diagnosis through recovery. As a top-rated Gynecologic Oncologist and leading-edge specialist in Robotic Surgery, Dr. Im was the first surgeon to be named a Gynecologic Oncology Epicenter Surgeon for the da Vinci robot. Dr. Im trains doctors from around the world in advanced surgical techniques. This is the third Annual Robotic CME that Dr. Im has been Course Director for Mercy Medical Center. Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Dr. Rosenshein has devoted his medical career to advancing surgical techniques to treat female genital tract cancers, including ovarian, cervical, uterine, endometrial, vulvar and vaginal cancers. Women across the region and the U.S. come to Dr. Rosenshein because of his operating room mastery and his tireless devotion to his patients and their families. With a laser-like focus on the medical needs of each patient, Dr. Rosenshein is known for his precision in surgery that minimizes the size of the surgical incision and the length of time the patient is in surgery. His compassionate concern for all patients includes his appreciation of the healing power of family and friends. Women who have experienced Dr. Rosenshein s skill in surgery also are touched by his endless support throughout their diagnosis and recovery. It is not unusual for women who have been treated by Dr. Rosenshein to return with friends, mothers and daughters who they would only trust to his care. Dr. Rosenshein s topic of discussion will focus on pelvic components and structures, and the complex relationships of muscles, arteries, and nerves. Michael Pitter, M.D. Dr. Pitter specializes in all aspects of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery including Gyn Robotic Surgery. He is one of the foremost authorities in Gynecological Robotic Surgery and not only performs these procedures, but trains surgeons from all over the world in the application of this technology. Dr. Pitter is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. Thomas N. Payne, M.D. Dr. Payne is both nationally and internationally known as a thought leader in benign robotic assisted gynecologic surgery. He serves as faculty for conferences around the globe and has enjoyed the privilege of educating hundreds of his fellow surgeons in the field of robotic surgery. Dr. Payne s primary passion is to teach, assist and perform complex surgery for the female patient. He is a Board Certified obstetrician-gynecologist by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Amir Shariati, M.D. Dr. Shariati s main interests are in minimally invasive surgery, bowel dysfunction and preventative treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary and fecal incontinence. Dr. Shariati is a well known doctor who has changed the world of robotic surgery. He was the first person to utilize the dual console robotic surgery for prolapse in the country and has performed hundreds of robotic surgeries for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence since 2004. As well as practicing medicine, Dr. Shariati has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.
