This is an introductory guide on how to setup Outlook Express with a new email service. By following these basic steps you will be able to quickly setup your Outlook Express with your Highway 1 (Global Dial or EON) hosted email. Please note that you ll need to contact us to create the new email address. You can then use Outlook to access it. Step 1. Open Outlook Express 1. Open Outlook Express. 2. Step 2. New Account 1. Click "Add" 2. Click "Mail" Step 3. Your Name 1. Enter your name in "Display Name" 2. Click "Next" 3. Page 2 of 10 Ph: 1300 139 550
Step 4. Email Address 1. Enter your Highway 1/Global Dial/EON etc hosted email address in the "Email address:" 2. Click Next Page 3 of 10 Ph: 1300 139 550
Step 5. Server Settings (POP3) If you use POP3 then complete this step. If you use IMAP skip to step 6. 1. Select '..incoming mail server is a' POP3. 2. Enter "mail.highway1.com.au in the POP3 Server: 3. Enter "smtp.highway1.com.au" in the SMTP Server: 4. Click Next Page 4 of 10 Ph: 1300 139 550
Step 6. Server Settings (IMAP) If you use IMAP then complete this step. If you use POP3 then skip this step. 1. Select '..incoming mail server is a' IMAP. 2. Enter mail.highway1.com.au in Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:' 3. Enter smtp.highway1.com.au in the SMTP Server: 4. Click Next Page 5 of 10 Ph: 1300 139 550
Step 7. Internet Mail Login 1. Enter your FULL email address username in 'Account Name' 2. Enter your password in 'Password' 3. Check the "Remember Password" box 4. Step 9. Enable SMTP Authentication We require you to authenticate (send your username and password) with our server before you can send email from your computer via Highway 1. This prevents non-highway 1 subscribers sending email from our servers. To configure this do the following in Outlook Express: 1. Highlight the new account you created. By default it is called "mail.highway1.com.au" 2. Click on the "Properties" button on the left. 3. Click on the "Servers" Tab 4. Step 10. Secure POP3 Setup (Optional) If you use IMAP skip to step 11. The following settings are optional if you use POP3 to collect email. If you would like to encrypt the transmission of the email to and from Highway 1 to your computer do the following: 1. Click 'Advanced' tab. 2. Under SMTP section, check the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." 3. Under the POP3 section, check the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." 4. The incoming mail (POP3): number will then automatically change to "995". 5. Click OK. 6. Click Close. 7. You are all set up. Page 9 of 10 Ph: 1300 139 550
Step 11. Secure IMAP Setup (Optional) If you use POP3 skip this step. The following settings are optional if you use IMAP to collect email.
