NUPS About the University 4 5 NUPS claims to be a unique institution in the European Higher Educational Area. The training portfolio of our University reflects on social, economic and security challenges affecting the public sector. We offer programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and at doctoral level to students and also to senior and executive civil servants, military officers and law enforcement professionals, enabling them to reflect and adapt to these new challenges. NUPS Erasmus Student Network Erasmus STudent Network 10 11 NUPS The Tandem programme of NUPS became a section of the Erasmus Student Network in January 2015. In the framework of the programme each incoming student is paired with a mentor (buddy) who provides assistance in all kinds of matters from everyday issues to student affairs. During your studies at NUPS the mentors will organise a wide range of leisure activities for you, in some cases together with students from other universities. These programmes usually include excursions to Lake Balaton and to popular tourist sites not far from the capital. You can also ask your buddy for advice on other activities and you are welcome to participate at the social events of the Students Union as well. The International Relations Office organises a welcome ceremony for incoming students each semester where international students of each faculty can get to know each other. The welcome ceremonies usually take place in mid-september and in mid-february giving opportunity to meet members of the University s administrative staff supporting international mobility. FACULTY OF MILITARY SCIENCES AND OFFICER TRAINING About Basic information FACULTY OF MILITARY SCIENCES AND OFFICER TRAINING 12 13 Being part of NUPS, the Faculty of Military Sciences and Officer Training began its operation on the 1st of January 2012, however, it was preserving the nearly 200 years old tradition of Hungarian military officer training as the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University. Even today the faculty s main tasks are the education and training of professional military officers along with research and development in the various fields of military science. It enjoys a wide spectrum of international relations ranging from different higher educational institutions focusing on military education and training to institutions related to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The faculty centre is located on the Hungária Campus not far from downtown Budapest. With many classrooms, seminar rooms, special language labs, sports facilities, a library with more than 500 thousand books, a restaurant and a buffet cadets and students can pursue their studies within a fully equipped facility. FACULTY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT About Basic information FACULTY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT 14 15 Law enforcement officer training at the institution dates back to 1970 when the Police College was established. Being the legal successor of the college, NUPS continues to be the sole higher educational institution in this field through the Faculty of Law Enforcement. The Faculty s high-level, top quality study programmes are aimed to train future professionals, commissioned officers, public servants and public officials for posts at organisations and institutions of law enforcement. These trainings are supported by language and ICT labs and separate classrooms for special subjects. In addition, student life is ensured with several facilities such as a self-service restaurant, a gym, a library with specialized material along with a students residence offering rooms for 3 or 4 persons each. The Faculty can provide accomodation for up to 15 incoming students in general. FACULTY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION About Basic information FACULTY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION 16 17 The Faculty of Public Administration has been educating professional civil servants for all levels of public administration since 1977. All students acquire general knowledge and skills related to public service but they also learn the basics of political and legal studies including the methods of legislation and law application at national and international level as well. Graduates of the faculty have had a notable career trajectory with several alumni becoming key decision-makers in the public sphere or having achieved a successful career in the private sector. For people interested in academia, the Faculty offers a PhD programme which is the first one in Hungary focusing exclusiely on public administration sciences. Location 1118 Budapest, Ménesi út 5. faculty of international and european studies About Basic information faculty of international and european studies 18 19 The Faculty of International and European Studies was established in February 2015 with the aim of becoming the principal institution for training future diplomats and experts of security and defence policy. The new Faculty s programme portfolio is responding to current changes and challenges on the field of classical international relations and diplomacy. Considering that the values, methods and priorities of international cooperation and diplomacy are undergoing a dramatic change, fulfilling an international public service career is still a very attractive, however more and more difficult challenge for young talents. The Faculty is going to prepare candidates on these challenges due to its innovative education and research activity, as a first of its kind Faculty in the country. There is a wide range of benefits, discounts and services that are available for ISIC cardholders. Learn more at: http://www.isic.org/about-us/ You can apply for a temporary student ID or certificate during your stay in Hungary. The faculties have different practices for issuing these documents. Please ask your faculty Erasmus coordinator for more information. NEPTUN Electronic Administration System The courses and evaluation of students are managed in this online system. Each student has access to the system that makes it possible to select courses, apply for exams or check the schedule of the selected courses. Usually the faculty Erasmus coordinators add courses for incoming students after arrival. Examination There are several ways of evaluating the performance of students. Courses usually end with a written or oral exam. Some lecturers require home essays or research work that can replace exams. Your final grades will be registered in the Neptun system, based on which you will get your transcript of records in the end of the semester. Visa, registration Students from EU and EEA member states have to register themselves at the regional offices of the Office of Immigration and Nationality in case their stay will be longer than 90 days. Students from non-eu countries have to apply for a student visa before their arrival.
