Ready Reference 100208 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Introduction Pace University s Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows for secure, encrypted access to the Pace University network along with the ability to connect to your desktop remotely. You must have a valid Pace account and an Internet connection. Note: VPN will not work with 64 bit Vista or Vista that is upgraded from XP Currently, there are two ways to obtain the VPN software: 1. Go to https://pru.pace.edu, click on Download VPN Client, enter your MyPace Portal username and password, and then download the required version for your operating system (i.e., Windows XP, Window Vista, or MAC). 2. Take a blank CD-R to a Computer Resource Center near you and have a staff member download the software for you. Below are instructions for installing VPN on the following operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X (10.4 or higher). Note: Uninstall any previous versions of VPN before installing the current version. Windows XP To install a copy of VPN for Windows XP (Part 1): go to https://pru.pace.edu click on Download VPN Client enter your MyPace Portal username and password click Login click on the icon for Windows XP/Vista click Run

The Security Warning dialog box displays saying the publisher could not be verified. click Run click Unzip and then click OK The Cisco Systems VPN Client 5.0.03.0560 Installation Wizard opens automatically. click Next select the radio button next to I accept the license agreement click Next leave the Destination Folder as is (default path is recommended) and click Next - 2 -

click Next at the Ready to Install the Application dialog box click Finish to exit click Yes to restart your computer and complete the installation process - 3 -

Your computer will restart to complete the installation. To install a copy of VPN for Windows XP (Part 2): go to https://pru.pace.edu click on Download VPN Client enter your MyPace Portal username and password click Login click on the icon for click Save save the.pcf file to your desktop with the default file name and click Save click Close - 4 -

Note: In the following steps, you will need to import the Pace_University.pcf file to establish a VPN connection. To launch a VPN session from your home/remote computer: click Start select All Programs click the next to Cisco Systems VPN Client folder and select VPN Client Note: If you have created a shortcut icon for the Pace VPN Dialer and placed it on your desktop, you can double-click the icon to launch Pace VPN The VPN Client Version 5.0.03.0560 dialog box displays. click the Import button select your desktop and select the Pace_University.pcf file click Open click OK after the acknowledgement that the import was successful - 5 -

click Connect The User Authentication for Pace University dialog box displays. enter your MyPace Portal Username and Password click OK Note: Students, faculty and staff members are automatically given a VPN account. Problems with user accounts should be addressed to the DoIT s Customer Support Center at 914-773-3648 or at doithelpdesk@pace.edu. The Banner message displays. click Continue to agree with DoIT s Appropriate Use Policy The Padlock icon displays on the Taskbar and you are now connected to Pace VPN. To Disconnect a VPN session: right-click on the VPN padlock icon on the Taskbar click Disconnect - 6 -

Windows Vista To install a copy of VPN for Windows Vista: go to https://pru.pace.edu click on Download VPN Client enter your MyPace Portal Username and Password click Login click on the icon for click Save save the.pcf file to your desktop with the default file name and click Save click Close - 7 -

To continue installing a copy of VPN for Windows Vista: click on the icon for Windows XP/Vista click Run The Security Warning dialog box displays saying the publisher could not be verified. click Run - 8 -

click Unzip click OK on the 12 file(s) have been successfully unzipped dialog box The Cisco Systems VPN Client 5.0.03.0560 Setup Wizard opens automatically. click Next to start the Installation Wizard select the radio button next to I accept the license agreement and click Next - 9 -

click Next to install the software in the default location (recommended) click Next to begin installation After installation has completed a dialog box will indicate that it has be successfully installed. click Finish You will be prompted to restart your computer. - 10 -

click Yes Your computer will restart to complete the installation. To launch a VPN session from your home/remote computer: click Start select All Programs open Cisco Systems VPN Client select VPN Client Note: If you have created a shortcut icon for the Pace VPN Dialer and placed it on your desktop, you can double-click the icon to launch Pace VPN. click Agree to accept the license agreement click Install to begin installation enter your MyPace Portal Password if prompted A message indicating successful installation displays. click Close - 14 -

You have completed installation of the Cisco VPN Client software. To install a copy of VPN for Mac OS X (10.4 or higher) (Part 2): go to https://pru.pace.edu click on Download VPN Client enter your MyPace Portal username and password click Login click on the icon for To complete Part 2 of the installation, launch a VPN session from your home/remote computer: Note: Part 2 of the installation only needs to be done once. click the VPN Client on the Dock The VPN Client Version 4.9.01 (0100) dialog box displays. click Import go to Downloads, select Pace University.pcf, and click Open - 15 -

minimize the VPN Client You are now connected to Pace VPN. To Disconnect a VPN session: restore the VPN Client click Disconnect on the VPN Client - 17 -
