In the resulting search dialog type the name or partial name of the file you would like to search for and click the Start Search button. The search will find all files or folders that match or contain the entered search text. WILDCARD SEARCHES You can search using wildcards * and?. The asterix (*) wildcard is used to match zero or more characters. For example, if you are searching for a file that begins with sample you can search using the text sample*. This would match all files beginning with sample, such as sample.txt, sample2.txt, sample_3.txt, sample_pic.bmp and sampledocument.doc. To narrow the search to a particular file type you could search for sample*.txt In this case the search would find all files that start with sample and have the extension.txt, such as sample.txt, sample2.txt and sample_3.txt. The question mark (?) wildcard is used to match exactly one character. For example, if you searched for sample?.txt the search would find sample2.txt but not sample.txt or sample_3.txt. SEARCHING IN A PARTICULAR FOLDER You can specify a particular folder to search in by pressing the Browse... button. To also search in all sub folders of the selected folder tick the Search sub folders checkbox. Contents Index 39
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT SEARCH RESULTS Search results are displayed in a list similar to a Windows Explorer folder view. You can perform most normal file operations on search results, including open, rename, copy and delete. Contents Index 40
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT TRANSFER MANAGER The BigPond Online Storage PC Client includes a tool called the BigPond Online Storage Transfer Manager. The Transfer Manager can be used to perform managed file transfers to and from your BigPond Online Storage account. The main advantage of transferring files using the Transfer Manager rather than using copy and paste or drag and drop operations is that if a file transfer is interrupted it can be resumed at a later time. STARTING A MANAGED DOWNLOAD FROM BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE To begin a managed download from BigPond Online Storage to your local file system: 1 Browse to the source BigPond Online Storage file or folder using Windows Explorer. 2 Right-click on the file or folder and choose Download... from the item s context menu. 3 A dialog titled Enter Download Target will be displayed. Enter the target path for the download or click Browse... to browse for a target folder. 4 Click OK to continue. The selected file or folder will be queued in the Transfer Manager for downloading. See Managing BigPond Online Storage file transfers on page 43 for details on how to manage or monitor the file download. Note If you choose to download a folder using the Transfer Manager, all child files in the selected folder will be downloaded to your local file system. Contents Index 41
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT STARTING A MANAGED UPLOAD TO BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE When the BigPond Online Storage PC Client is installed, an extra context menu item, Upload to Online Storage, is added to local files and folders. To begin a managed upload from your local file system to BigPond Online Storage: 1 Browse to the source file or folder using Windows Explorer. 2 Right-click on the file or folder and choose Upload to Online Storage from the item s context menu. 3 A dialog titled Browse For Folder will be displayed. Using this dialog select the target BigPond Online Storage folder. 4 Click OK to continue. Note You must be connected to the InternetInternet to choose the target BigPond Online Storage folder and begin the managed upload. The selected file or folder will be queued in the Transfer Manager for uploading. See Managing BigPond Online Storage file transfers on page 43 for details on how to manage or monitor the file upload. Note If you choose to upload a folder using the Transfer Manager, all child files in the selected folder will be uploaded to BigPond Online Storage. Contents Index 42
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT MANAGING BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE FILE TRANSFERS When you upload or download files using the Transfer Manager, file transfers are displayed in the main window. The Transfer Manager window has two lists: one displaying active file downloads and the other displaying active file uploads. Managed downloads Managed uploads For each file being transferred the following information is displayed: full path of the source file full path of the destination file file transfer progress bar current transfer status, which can be one of: - the file transfer will begin as soon as the Transfer Manager can establish a connection with the server. - the file transfer is being initialised. - the file transfer is currently in progress. - the file transfer has been paused by the user. - the file transfer has been cancelled by the user. - the file transfer has completed successfully. - the file transfer could not be completed due to an error. the amount of data that has currently been transferred Contents Index 43
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT PAUSING A FILE TRANSFER To pause an upload or download, select the file transfer in the appropriate list (uploads or downloads) and click Pause. Note You can only pause a file transfer if it is currently transferring. RESUMING A FILE TRANSFER To resume a previously paused upload or download, select the file transfer in the appropriate list (uploads or downloads) and click Resume. CANCELLING A FILE TRANSFER To cancel an upload or download that has not yet completed, select the file transfer in the appropriate list (uploads or downloads) and click Cancel. If the cancelled file transfer was replacing an existing file, the original file will be restored. Contents Index 44
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT COMPLETED FILE TRANSFERS When an upload or download finishes successfully, the status column displays the text complete. You can clear a completed file transfer from the list by selecting it and clicking Clear. Clearing a completed upload or download simply removes it from the file transfer list; the source and destination files are not affected. FILE TRANSFER ERRORS If an error occurs during a file transfer, an error icon will be displayed in the status column. To get more information about the error hover the mouse over the error icon and a tooltip will be displayed. FORCED FILE TRANSFER INTERRUPTIONS Sometimes BigPond Online Storage uploads or downloads might be interrupted forcibly, such as when an Internet connection is lost unexpectedly or the computer is restarted. In these scenarios the data that has already been transferred will not be lost and the file transfer will resume when possible. In the case of an Internet connection loss, existing file transfers will change to a pending state and will resume as soon as the Transfer Manager can re-establish a connection with the BigPond Online Storage server. If your computer is restarted while file transfers are in progress, the Transfer Manager will launch when the computer restarts. All BigPond Online Storage uploads or downloads that were incomplete when the computer shut down will enter a pending state and will resume as soon as the Transfer Manager can reestablish a connection with the BigPond Online Storage server. Contents Index 45
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT LAUNCHING THE TRANSFER MANAGER The Transfer Manager launches automatically when you start a managed upload or download (See Starting a managed upload to BigPond Online Storage on page 42 and Starting a managed download from BigPond Online Storage on page 41). The Transfer Manager will also launch automatically when you restart your computer if there are pending file transfers. Alternatively, to manually launch the Transfer Manager: Choose Start > Programs > Telstra > BigPond Online Storage > Transfer Manager from the Windows Start menu. Click the Transfer Manager link in the Settings and Tools section of the Online Storage panel. Select Online Storage > Transfer Manager from the BigPond Toolbar menu (if you have the BigPond Toolbar installed). CLOSING THE TRANSFER MANAGER You can close the Transfer Manager at any time by clicking Close. Closing the Transfer Manager will pause any active file transfers. You will be asked to confirm the close operation if there are any active file transfers. Click Yes to continue closing the Transfer Manager. Note File transfers that are paused by closing the Transfer Manager will resume when the Transfer Manager is next started. Contents Index 46
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE PROPERTIES You can use the BigPond Online Storage PC Client to view general properties of your BigPond Online Storage plan, as well as properties for each file and folder you have stored on BigPond Online Storage. BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE SETTINGS DIALOG The BigPond Online Storage settings dialog displays information about your BigPond Online Storage plan and PC Client. The User Plan tab includes details of your plan quota and current usage. The About tab displays version information for your BigPond Online Storage PC Client. The Increase... button can be clicked to view a web page that gives you details on how to increase your BigPond Online Storage plan. The Advanced... button can be clicked to view advanced PC Client settings. (See Advanced Settings on page 49). Note If you have a Professional plan the settings dialog will also have a property page for editing your mirror folder preferences. See Mirror folder settings on page 63 for more details. Contents Index 47
CHAPTER 5: USING THE PC CLIENT LAUNCHING THE BIGPOND ONLINE STORAGE SETTINGS DIALOG To open the BigPond Online Storage PC Client settings dialog do one of the following: Choose Start > Programs > Telstra > BigPond Online Storage > Usage and Settings from the Windows Start menu. Right-click on the BigPond Online Storage desktop shortcut and select Properties from the shortcut s context menu. Right-click on the BigPond Online Storage icon in Windows Explorer and select Properties from the icon s context menu. Select the BigPond Online Storage icon in Windows Explorer and choose File > BigPond Online Storage >Properties from Windows Explorer s main menu.
