da Vinci Robotic Surgery Training Programs The Ohio State University Medical Center

Mission Statement The Ohio State University Medical Center is one of the largest and most diverse academic medical centers in the country and the only academic medical center in central Ohio. Driven by our mission to improve people s lives through innovation in research, Ohio State University Medical Center saves lives and improves the quality of life by rapidly translating the latest discoveries from the research lab to the bedside. We educate a large percentage of the region s physicians and provide advanced training and education for clinicians.

Overview Ohio State University offers several options for introduction to robotic surgery for surgeons, operating room and nursing staff, as well as administrators of hospitals and medical systems. With years of experience hosting visitors from around the country and around the world, OSU s surgeons and staff provide our guests with a detailed look at the experience necessary to build a successful robotics practice and robotics program. Target Audience The choice of programs is for target audiences including Urologists, Gynecologists, Gynecologic Oncologists, Operating room nurses and staff, robotics program managers, and hospital or medical system administrators. Robotic Surgery at Ohio State Ohio State University has a rich history in robotic surgery since the first da Vinci robot was installed and the first robotic procedures in North America were performed at OSU in 1999. Since then, thousands of robotic procedures have been performed in diverse surgical specialties that include Urology, Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Urogynecology, Otolaryngology, and General Surgery. OSU s multidisciplinary robotics program has dedicated clinical and administrative staff who share their expertise with those planning to institute robotics in their practices and at their hospitals.

Faculty Ronney Abaza, M.D. Director, Robotic Urologic Surgery Dr. Abaza s practice is dedicated to robotic urologic surgery, and he has performed hundreds of such procedures including a diverse array of prostate, bladder and kidney surgeries. Dr. Abaza enjoys instructing both surgeons interested in learning robotic prostatectomy as well as those interested in extending their robotic practice beyond prostatectomy to more than eight other urologic procedures he routinely performs. Jeffrey M. Fowler, M.D. Professor and Director, Gynecologic Oncology Dr. Fowler is an internationally recognized expert in minimally invasive gynecologic cancer surgery and has lectured locally, nationally and internationally on the topic. He has one of the world s largest clinical experience with robotic gynecologic oncology procedures. David E. Cohn, M.D. Director, Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program Dr. Cohn has been performing minimally invasive gynecologic cancer surgery for over 10 years, and robotic surgery since 2005. He is an internationally recognized expert in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic gynecologic surgery. Andrew Dollmatsch Robotics Program Director Mr. Dollmatsch is responsible for coordinating development, marketing, operations and budgeting for the multidisciplinary robotic surgery program at OSU. Lynda Jayjohn, RN Operating Room Nursing Manager for Robotics Lynda Jayjohn leads a team of specialized nursing staff dedicated to robotic surgical procedures. Her experience with process management and efficiency with robotic surgery led to development of the first robotic team-training program in the world at OSU.
