Button Description Code Search Button Programs devices by searching through brand codes. Use when code lists are not available or when the listed code does not work with your device. See page 3. Channel and Sound (VOL, PREV CH, MUE,, ENER) Use these buttons to control sound and channel changes. VCR Buttons (YNCR, REW, PLAY, FF, REC, PAUSE, SOP) Use these buttons to control tape playback from a VCR and to record. Custom V Button Sets the remote to bring up favorite channels programmed for a number button. See page 6. Device Buttons (AUX, CABLE, VCR, V) Determines which device you are controlling. Buttons light to show which device is selected. (AUX can be set to control a second Cable Box, VCR or V). Number Buttons (0-9) Use these buttons to directly enter channel numbers for a V, VCR and Cable Box. Also used for entering program code numbers from brand lists and when programming and using Custom V feature. Setting Up Your Universal Remote Place Batteries in the remote 1. Remove the battery compartment cover. 2. Place four AAA batteries as shown, matching the + and - end of each battery as indicated in the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Determine if your remote needs programming Some RCA, GE and ProScan devices may already be pre-programmed. 1. Press the button of the device you want to control (for example V). 2. If the device turns on, press another button, to confirm (for example NEL UP). 3. If the device you selected (V) responds, you will not need to program the remote. If the device you selected (V) does not respond, you will need to program the remote. (See pages 3-4 for programming instructions). 4. Repeat steps 1-3 for other devices. 2 o AUX CABLE VCR V 0 0 0

Programming Your Universal Remote he remote may already be set up to operate your brand of V, VCR, or Cable Box. It is pre-programmed with the following codes: V-ODD, VCR-ODD, Cable Box-O~~ and AUX is programmed with VCR code 037. For brands that require programming, there are two ways to program: Using Code Lists or Code Search. Use Code Search if the code lists are not available or if the codes from the lists do not operate a device. Programming a Device using CODE SEARCH 1. Manually turn on your device (V, VCR, Cable Box). 2. Press and hold CODE SEARCH. 3. Press and release the device button you want to set up (V, VCR, or CABLE). However, if you are using AUX for a device, press and release A UX first and then the device button for the type of device to be programmed (V, VCR, or CABLE). he selected device button will flash once. 4. Release CODE SEARCH. 5. Press OFF/ON repeatedly until the device turns off (you may have to press up to 100 tim.es at a rate of once per second). 6. Once the device turns off, press and release ENER. 7. With the device on, press another button, for example NEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Programming Your Universal Remote Programming a Device using the Code Lists 1. Find codes for each device and brand on page numbers shown below. 2. Press and hold CODE SEARCH. PRESS & HOLD - CODE SEARCH @ 3. Press and release the V, VCR, or CABLE button you want to set up. If programming AUX for a device, press and release A UX first and then the device to be programmed (V, VCR, Cable Box). When the selected device button flashes proceed to the next step. 4. Operating A V urning the V On and Off. 1. Press V to set the remote to control the V (Most RCA, GE and ProScan models will only tum on when V is pressed, not OFF/ON). 2. Press OFF/ON to tum the V on or off. Change Channels on the V Press NEL UP or NEL DOWN to change channels on the V or enter the channels as you would normally for your V. o AUX CABLE VCR V 0 0 I OFF/ON Operating A Cable Box urning the Cable Box On and Off. 1. Point the remote at the cable box and press CABLE. 2. Press OFF/ON to tum it on or off. Changing Channels on the Cable Box. Press NEL UP or DOWN to change channels on the cable box or enter the channel as you would normally for your cable box. AUX CABLE VCR V 010 0 OFF/ON 5

Custom V (Systemlink Exclusive) he CUSOM button allows you to store 10 of your favorite V channels in memory. You can access these channels using the remote's number buttons. Follow the steps below to program channels to each of the number buttons. Programming the Custom Button 1. Press and hold CUSOM. 2. Press the number (0-9) you want to use to bring up the custom channel. For example, if you want to program channel 12 to the number 1 button, press l. 3. Enter the channel number as you would normally. Up to three buttons may be pressed, including the ENER button. 4. Release CUSOM. he Custom button will flash once if programming was successful. If it does not flash, it was not programmed. ry again. 5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each additional channel. Operating A VCR um the VCR On and Off. 1. Press VCR to set the remote to control the VCR. (Most RCA, GE and ProScan models will only turn on when pressing VCR not OFF/ON). 2. Press OFF/ON to tum the VCR on or off. Watch a tape in your VCR. 1. urn on the VCR. 2. Insert a tape in the VCR. 3. Press PLAY to start the tape. 4. Press SOP when you are finished. 5. Press REW to rewind the tape. 6. Press PAUSE to pause the tape. Record one channel and watch another. 1. Press VCR to set the remote to control the VCR. If you programmed AUX for a VCR, press AUX. 2. une the VCR to the channel you want to record. 3. Press REC to start recording. 4. Press VNCR. Press NEL UP or DOWN to change channels on the V. 7. o see the channel you are recording, tune the V to channel 3 or 4 (same as CH3 / 4 switch on the VCR). 7

Operating A VNCR Combo Unit Some V/VCR combination units may be controlled by using a combination of V and VCR codes. For example, the Samsung V /VCR combo unit may be controlled by both the Samsung V code and the Samsung VCR code. Special Operations RCA, GE and PROSCAN Brand Devices: Many of these devices (Vs and VCRs) will not need to be programmed. In the event that programming is required, the code search method is suggested. Note: With these brands, the device button (V, VCR) will usually tum the units on. he OFF/ON button will only tum these devices off. SCIENIFIC ALANIC Cable Boxes: his brand of cable box can be programmed using the code search method by using the NEL UP key rather than OFF/ON during Code Search. NOE: he device must be turned on prior to beginning the code search. Once the device turns off, press and release ENER. In most cases this cable box can be turned on and off using the NEL UP key not the OFF/ON button. If the unit will not tum on using the NEL UP key, then manually tum it on and only partial compatibility will be achieved. JERROLD or GENERAL INSRUMENS Cable Boxes: hese units can be programmed using the code search method. In some cases, these devices will change channels during the code search. Continue until the unit turns off, then press and release ENER. ZENIH and OAK Cable Boxes: Some Zenith and Oak Cable Boxes require pressing NEL DOWN rather than ENER after numeric entry. Low Battery Warning When your batteries are weak, the device keys will light sequentially indicating it is time to change batteries. 8
