Job Title: Location/Base: Department: Reporting to: Pharmacy Assistant Highgate Hospital Pharmacy Pharmacy Manager 1. JOB PURPOSE: To undertake a defined series of duties of a mainly routine nature under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist. To distribute drugs around the Hospital as part of duties. 2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Workload Management Effectively participate in aspects of the pharmacy service, working accurately, efficiently and to agreed standards. Works to Standard Operating Procedures, and contributes to the development of procedures. Participates in a rolling stock checking programme, including medical gases. Participates in ward top-up services to agreed standards. Delivering ward stocks, dispensed items and controlled drugs to wards and departments when requested to do so. Takes delivery of medical gases, entering stock received onto the pharmacy computer system and ensuring medical gases are charged to end-users when required to do so. Assists with the monitoring of medical gases usage, suggesting improvements in cylinder management and administration systems. Answering the telephone in a polite manner and ensuring queries are dealt with. Replenishment of dispensing requisites, and liaising with members of staff to order stocks as needed. Dispensing of drugs for in-patients and out-patients when trained to do so. Putting stock away in the dispensary and at ward level, in an efficient and accurate manner. Page 1 of 6

Ensures the pharmacy waste is disposed of in line with all current legislation, and the completing of all accompanying paperwork, in an efficient manner. Delivery of drugs and pharmacy supplies to wards and department. Participates in weekend and bank holiday working arrangements in the department as well as a commitment to the evening rota. Ensure the working area is kept clean and tidy. Defrosts the refrigerators monthly as requested. Other duties as requested by the Pharmacy Manager. Any other duties as required by the Pharmacy Manager for the benefit of the service. Communication Ensure that a senior member of staff is promptly notified of any errors or irregularities arising, in respect of pharmaceutical matters. Is responsible for ensuring customers are dealt with in a timely, efficient and pleasant manner. Human Resources Management Assists with the training of new support staff in all roles, in order to meet the standards according to procedures. Performance and Resource Management To achieve agreed objectives in order to effectively contribute to the provision of the pharmaceutical service. Personal Development Must undertake an NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services in an agreed timescale and to agree standards and keep personally updated at all times. Pharmacy Assistant PERSON SPECIFICATION Educational qualifications: Specific training / skills / knowledge required: Experience: General temperament: Essential Minimum 3 GCSE s including Maths, English and Science.
