How to connect to via VPN Remote Desktop for Windows 2000, XP, & Vista-32bit Agnes Scott College offers remote desktop software for those who are approved to e-commute. Make sure you pick up the software from the ITS. The following procedure outlines the necessary steps to install the Cisco VPN client software and connect to your Agnes Scott College computer remotely via remote desktop. Please make sure that you have completed the following checklist prior to beginning the Cisco VPN software installation. Pre-Installation Checklist Obtain a copy of the VPN software installation disk from the ITS helpdesk. Submit an ITS help desk ticket to add your network account to the VPN users group. Write down the IP address of your ASC workstation. Add your network account to the remote desktop users group on your ASC workstation. You ASC workstation is running Windows XP or Windows VISTA. Leave your ASC workstation turned off and standby mode has been disabled. The computer that you will be connecting from has current antivirus software installed and running. Uninstall any previous versions of the VPN client (prior to version 5.0.2).
Cisco VPN Client v.5.0.02 Installation Instructions 1. Insert the Cisco VPN Clinet 5.0.02 installation disk into the computer that you will be connecting from. 2. Double click on the vpnclient_setup.msi file on the cd. Note: Windows Vista installation will require that you right click the vpnclient_setup.msi file and the select run as administrator to properly install. 3. The Cisco VPN Client 5.0.02 Installation wizard will appear. 4. Click Next to continue the installation. 5. Select the I accept the license agreement radial button. 6. Click Next
7. Click Next, at the Default Folder installation screen. 8. Click Next to begin the VPN client installation. 9. Click Finish to complete the VPN client installation.
10. You will now be required to reboot your computer to complete the Cisco VPN installation. Click Yes to reboot your computer 11. After your computer has finished rebooting. Open the VPN Client by clicking the Start button, select Programs ("All Programs" for Windows XP users), select Cisco Systems VPN Client, and then click VPN Client. 12. Click the Import icon to import the Agnes Scott College VPN client settings.
13. Locate the Agnes Scott.pcf file located on the installation CD you acquired from the Help Desk. 14. Click Open to import the Agnes Scott.pcf file into your connection settings. 15. Click Ok to confirm that the Agnes Scott.pcf file was successfully imported. Cisco VPN Client v.5.0.02 Connecting 1. Open the Cisco VPN Client, if it is not presently open, by clicking the Start button, select Programs ("All Programs" for Windows XP users), select Cisco Systems VPN Client, and then click VPN Client. 2. Select the Agnes Scott connection by single left-clicking the connection. 3. Click the Connect button to connect to the VPN.
4. When the User Authentication window appears, enter your ASC network login and password into the appropriate fields, then click the OK button (See image at right). 5. Once authenticated, a message stating, "Welcome to the Agnes Scott College Virtual Private Network" will appear. Click the Continue button. 6. While connected to the VPN, a locked yellow padlock icon will appear in your system tray (Indicated in image at right). Cisco VPN Client v.5.0.02 Disconnecting 1. Double-click the yellow padlock icon in the system tray. 2. From the VPN Client window that opens, click the "Disconnect" button to terminate the connection to the VPN. 3. After the VPN connection has terminated, you can close the VPN Client.
Remote Desktop Connecting 1. While your computer is connected to the ASC VPN, open the Windows Remote Desktop Connector, by clicking the Start button, select Programs > Accessories ("All Programs" for Windows XP users), and select Remote Desktop Connection. 2. Enter the IP address of your ASC workstation. 3. Select Connect. You should then be prompted for you network login and password to login to you ASC Workstation.
