Cuddington Croft News Messages from the Headteacher Dear Parents/Carers Cuddington Croft is involved in an important national experiment to grow "Space Seeds". Yes, we are in possession of seeds which have actually travelled into space, the final frontier, with the famous astronaut Tim Peake. We have 100 rocket seeds which have been into space, and 100 which haven't. Our mission is to grow them all and see if being orbited into space makes seeds grow differently. We have no clue which packet of seeds is which, but this week Eco Club took their responsibility very seriously by planting all 200 seeds extremely carefully, 1 seed per capsule, and writing labels so they didn't get muddled up. Watch this SPACE for news of our exciting project. Inset Days The term dates for next year have been available on the website for a while. We have been working with the GLF to organise our inset days for next year to give you as much notice as we possibly can. This week we have finalised when our inset days for next academic year will be: Monday 5 th September 2016 Friday 25 th November 2016 Wednesday 21 st December 2016 Friday 30 th June 2017 Friday 21 st July 2017 Date Monday 2nd May Tuesday 3rd May Event Bank Holiday Friday 29th April 2016 Forgotten Items Can we take this opportunity to ask that parents only drop off items at the school office which are a necessity to their child s school day eg glasses, lunch boxes. We know that some students forget to bring things to school but they will not learn to organise themselves if they have parents who drop off what they have forgotten. Water bottles and naming uniform Please can all children remember to bring in named water bottles everyday and make sure all school uniform is clearly labelled. We have included details of labels for naming clothing and items. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Please see the attached for details of free courses for volunteers. News from the classroom: Year 2 Multi Sports On Wednesday we did a multi sports event. We played against Lime Tree School. We did activities such as bank or not bank, tunnel, wall bounce and cone rolls. We had three minutes on each activity. It was at Glyn school. We had so much fun and we won. The Year 2 Multi-Sports team In PE Year 4 have been playing golf with two golf teachers from Epsom golf club. So far we have been practising putting and chipping. There were different targets e.g. a big target, a cone to hit, nets and a hoop to hit the ball in. We are looking forward to doing the tri golf competition. Max and Zac This week Riordan have been creating Mayan masks using modroc. We researched why the Mayans created masks and discovered they were used as death masks, for celebrations and during warfare. We are hoping to have our masks completed and on display in the coming weeks for everyone to view them. In Nursery this week we have been sowing flower seeds and re-potting plants. The children loved getting their hands dirty in the soil and filling up their watering cans. We are learning not to overwater our plants, but that's hard sometimes as it is just so enjoyable! We used containers from our re-using box so as not to waste anything. We are helping with our whole school project to grow more plants and make our school grounds look prettier, whilst cutting down on waste and also working to win an Eco-Schools award. Now that's multi-tasking! Mrs Sage and Miss McAnallen would like to say a huge thank you to the children who played in the netball match this week against St Joseph's. Many of the children had never played a competition match before and stepped in at the last minute. They all played with enthusiasm and spirit and did our school proud. St Joseph's were very impressed with the attitude, effort and potential of the Cuddington Croft team. Thank you very much Victor Dunev, Uma Mitra, Grace Walker, Jack Denny, Eashaa Woochit, Nandana Rajeevan and Sarah Curry for starting off our game. And a special thank you to Megan Cheung, Alexandro Andrew, Millie Hancock, Leah Young, Nicole Lee and Tiarni Frost for playing two games with such determination. PTA News: We had an amazing turnout for the sponsored swim on Saturday 23rd April - 62 children swam an incredible total of 3,741 lengths of the main pool and 257 widths of the teaching pool. That is a distance of 97km! - see separate information sent out earlier this week and a picture on the website, click here.

We are so proud of our Year 6 rugby team who came third in the county finals at Surrey Sports Park this week! The team won all of their first round matches and were put into the cup tournament. With three wins and a draw we came out as the third best team in Surrey which is a brilliant achievement. Well done to all that played and thank you for all the support that was much appreciated on the sidelines! Well done to our fantastic Year 6 Top of the Form team who reached the semi finals of this years tournament. The team answered some incredibly tough questions and kept their cool under pressure! I think we might have some future mastermind champions at Cuddington!
