On-Cll Firefighter Aility Tests There re four tests tht mke up these Aility Tests, these re the: Working with Numers Test. This is time test tht lsts 45 minutes. Firefighters nee to e le to mke si mthemtil lultions, e.g. for interpreting guges or lulting how muh hose is neee t fire. This test will exmine these ilities. Unerstning Informtion Test. This is time test tht lsts 30 minutes. It ssesses your ility to unerstn n interpret the type of written informtion tht you my ommonly ome ross s Firefighter. Dittion Test. This test is esigne to ssess your ility to listen n write own informtion n to ensure you n ommunite informtion in writing; your hnwriting must e legile. In ition you will e ssesse on your spelling, grmmr n use of puntution.

Memory Retention, Rell n Written Test. This test ssesses your ility to work uner pressure, to unerstn n rell relevnt informtion n to ensure tht you n ommunite informtion in writing. The tests hve een esigne to e highly relevnt to the work of Firefighters. They use senrios n questions tht reflet the type of tivities n eisions tht Firefighters my nee to mke on routine sis. Whilst relisti n relevnt to the Firefighter role no speifi knowlege or experiene of eing Firefighter is require to omplete the tests. You will not e t isvntge if you o not hve this knowlege or experiene. The tests re eing use s they provie ojetive, fir n relevnt informtion on the key Personl Qulities n Attriutes (PQAs) neee to eome suessful Firefighter. Eh test is ssesse seprtely, ut will e looke t together to form n overll mesure of your suitility to eome Firefighter. The tests re pper se n you will e given full instrutions on how to omplete eh one efore you tke eh test. An Aministrtor will lso e present t the testing session n will guie you on eh stge of the proess. At the eginning of the ssessments there will e exmple questions to hek tht you hve unerstoo the instrutions n to mke sure you feel omfortle tking the test.

Setion Two: Prepring for the tests There re numer of things you n o to help you prepre to tke the Aility Tests. We suggest you set sie some time to unertke the preprtion esrie elow. Generl Preprtion Ensure tht you re omfortle with the ministrtive rrngements tht hve een me for you, if you re not, rise ny onerns with the Humn Resoures Setion. In prtiulr, hek tht you know: the te, time n lotion of the testing session (these will e etile on your invittion); n the time it will tke you to get to the venue n the trvel rrngements you nee to mke. If you hve ny speil requirements, plese ensure tht you hve informe the Humn Resoures Setion in plenty of time prior to the event, so tht the neessry rrngements n e me. Complete the Prtie Questions In Setions 4-5 of this ooklet there re prtie questions for the Working with Numers & Unerstning Informtion Tests. These re exmples of the sort of questions tht you will e ske. Whilst they re not the tul questions tht you will e presente with, they will nevertheless give you relisti preview of wht you will enounter uring the tul ssessment. You shoul omplete these s prt of your preprtion. Rememer: These questions re for prtie only they re not the questions you will e ske uring the rel ssessment. On The Dy Allow plenty of time to get to the test venue try to rrive t lest 30 minutes erly, s you will not e llowe to enter the test room if you rrive one testing hs strte. You o not nee to ring pper, penils, lultors or ny other equipment s everything you nee will e provie for you. Plese note, you will not e permitte to use lultors for the purpose of the Working with Numers test. Wer omfortle lothing. Do not rink lohol or tke ny strong meition prior to the ssessment session. Mke sure tht you re physilly omfortle efore the test session strts (visit the toilet, hve rink of wter, mke sure tht you hve eten something et.) During the Test Session The session will run for out 2 ½ hours in totl. Ensure tht you n see n her the Aministrtor omfortly n if not, tell him / her. Inform the Aministrtor of nything personlly signifint, for exmple if you feel ill, re izzy or hve onerns efore or uring the test session. Listen refully to the Aministrtor s he/she explins the ssessment proeure.

Any instrutions you nee will e re y the Aministrtor n will lso e shown in your question ooklets. Do not strt the tests until you hve een instrute to o so, n you re ler out wht you re oing. At the strt of eh ssessment you will e given one exmple question. Follow the instrutions for these s they will e goo prtie for the ssessment itself. If you re hving troule with the exmple questions, sk the Aministrtor for help ensure tht you unerstn wht he / she sys s you will not e le to sk for help one the tul ssessment egins. If t ny time you re unsure out wht you shoul e oing efore the ssessment egins sk!

Setion Three: Working with Numer & Unerstning Informtion question ooklets n nswer sheets During the Working with Numers n Unerstning Informtion Tests you will e given question ooklet n seprte nswer sheet for eh test. The first pge of the ooklet will ontin informtion out the test n the instrutions for ompleting it. Your Aministrtor will re the instrutions lou. You will then hve the opportunity to go through prtie senrio n questions efore strting the time test. Answering the questions When responing to the questions: You shoul only use the informtion provie to nswer the questions. Choose the orret nswer from the four nswers given n inite it on the nswer sheet. Fill the entire re tht orrespons to your nswer. If you mke mistke or hnge your min n eie on nother option plese erse the mistke n fill the re tht orrespons to your revise nswer. Ensure tht the mistke is ompletely erse, n NOT s shown elow If more thn one re is fille n there is no inition tht you hve ttempte to show one is inorret you will reeive no mrks for tht question. On the left of eh set of response is numer. During the tests you shoul ensure tht this numer orrespons to the numer of the question you re nswering.

It will help you fmilirise yourself with the Working with Numers Test, so tht you feel omfortle with the type n style of questions.
