Christmas Shop (No answer on October 4, 2012) Service: Children 3 14 years old can shop for gifts for the entire family (adults may not shop!). When the children are finished shopping they take all of the gifts they choose to the wrapping room. Volunteer wrappers allow the children to pick out paper and bows for their gifts and the volunteers wrap them. Children will get a cookie and a drink to take home along with their gifts. Adults only show up and form a line outside of the parish. Please emphasize that no children are allowed. Each adult needs a photo ID as well as a birth certificate for each child. If child s name does not match the adult s name, must provide documentation that shows adult is parent or legal guardian of child. Each adult will get a ticket with a number on it; tickets will be handed out starting at approximately 7:00 a.m. Ticket numbers will start being called at 9:00 a.m. Once a ticket number is called, the adult can go inside and receive the gift(s). Tips: Numbers are assigned on a first come first served basis. Some people come the night before in order to be near the front of the line. The line will be outside dress appropriately. ACS Community LIFT (updated October 4, 2012) Service: ACS Community Lift provides an adopt a family program for 100 families as well as a Santa Shop for another 300 families who are not part of the adopt a family program. Adopt a Family. Families may be adopted only once in 10 years; i.e., no one who was adopted from 2002 through 2011 is eligible. To apply, families must have original copy of a letter of nomination written on letterhead by an agency that is familiar with the family's financial circumstances. Families must bring the original nomination letter and documentation with proof of identity, proof of income and proof of need to ACS for an interview and to fill out application. Name on Adopt a Family application must match name on photo ID. Applicants must have a phone number where they can be reached. Registration is currently open and closes on November 15 or when ACS has accepted 100 families.
Santa shop: The only requirements for families to shop at the Santa Shop are that they must be clients of ACS as of October 15, 2011 and not be adopted this year. Families must apply at ACS for a certificate to shop at the Santa Shop. The certificate will show ages and gender of children and must be presented at the Santa Shop when the family comes to shop. Each child will receive a stocking, a stuffed animal and at least one toy. Tips: Documentation for each family should be on file at ACS. Families that do not speak English must bring a translator with them for the interview. Mile High Ministries Christmas Store (Called October 4, 2012; not all arrangements are completed yet.) Service: The Christmas Store provides the opportunity for Moms and Dads to purchase brand new toys at about 25% of the retail cost. The program officially kicks off on October 1, 2012. They suggest requests for toys be submitted as early after that date as possible. The main requirements of the nonprofit organization are a thorough screening of all families being requested for and a current 501(c)(3). The non profits pick up all toys at the Toys for Tots Warehouse no later than December 20, 2012. The person picking up for the non profit must also present a valid ID as well as the current 501(c)(3) certification.
