Last year, families and individuals alike celebrated with one another during this special time of year. meets the basic needs of our clients and empowers them every day of the year through our service-enriched programs. 2 MISSION Our mission is to provide working poor families as well as men, women and children of all ages with the inner resources and tools to become productive, stable and self-supporting members of the community. BACKGROUND About Since 1976, has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs. Intervention Services Homeless Service Center provides long-term case management aimed at permanent housing, offers referrals for critical services such as substance abuse treatment, and makes emergency services, such as shelter placement, showers, laundry, and mailboxes available to homeless individuals and families. Chronic Homeless Initiatives reach out to the most vulnerable homeless individuals in Venice and Santa Monica and help them transition into permanent supportive housing. Bread and Roses Café serves hot, nutritious meals to homeless men, women, and children in a welcoming atmosphere of dignity and respect. Housing Services assist people in securing and maintaining permanent housing. Senior Services provide case management and mental health services to at-risk housed and homeless older adults, with an emphasis on eviction-prevention services and housing placement. Monetary Advisory Program provides at-risk mentally ill adults with case management, money management, financial literacy classes, along with help finding and maintaining housing. Veterans Representative Payee Program provides at-risk veterans with case management, money management, financial literacy classes, along with help finding and maintaining housing. Prevention and Education Services Food Pantry provides low-income households with supplemental groceries, nutrition education, and workshops designed to increase wellbeing and support progress toward self-sufficiency. Family Center serves working poor families and individuals with case management, emergency services and targeted mental health outreach and treatment. Culinary Training Program educates unemployed adults in food service and life skills and helps them obtain jobs. Early Learning Center provides enriched childcare and parent education that nurtures children s healthy development while promoting stability and self-sufficiency for their families. 204 Hampton Drive Venice, CA (310)

3 Thanksgiving At Ways YOU CAN Help Thanksgiving Basket Donate a reusable bag of non-perishable grocery items for a family or individual in need. Include a $25 grocery gift card for the purchase of a turkey! Suggested grocery items include: stuffing, cranberry sauce, instant mashed potatoes, canned gravy, and canned yams. Please also add one or more of these canned items: corn, green beans, fruit, or pumpkin. Express Baskets A $30 donation is a great option that will afford our seniors, veterans and other clients the opportunity to choose their meal and save you time during the busy holiday season. An Express Basket will cover the cost of turkey breast, fresh vegetables for casserole dishes and ingredients for a delicious dessert. Group Participation Join with friends, family, co-workers, neighbors or other groups to make a donation. You can do this by: Organizing a food drive Collecting grocery gift cards Donating single items in bulk Getting Started Step 1: Fill out the Thanksgiving Commitment Card found on Page 5 and return to Volunteer Services by November 2, Step 2: Deliver baskets and gift cards to during the week of November 16-20, between 9am and 5pm. The only date to drop off frozen turkey donations is November 23, Save the Date & Participate Clipper s Turkey Distribution Day: TBD, 2015 Limited opportunities are available to join with the Los Angeles Clippers and Ralphs/Food4Less at St. Joseph Center to distribute food and turkeys to our clients. 4 Holiday Season Adopt-A-Family Program You can Make a Difference You can make the Holidays special for a family or individual in need! Participate in s Adopt-A- Family program to ensure that thousands of members of our community have a comforting meal and a holiday gift during this season of sharing. Join us by anonymously adopting a family or individual. Here s how... Ways YOU CAN Help Adopt a Family or Individual Each family and individual will fill out a Wishlist that you, the shopper, will receive. You will be responsible for purchasing the requested household item and gifts for each child in the family, as well as one $25 grocery gift card per family member. Express Adoptions* Express Adopt an individual for $50, which will provide a gift and a holiday meal. Express Adopt a family of 4 for $200, which will provide a household gift, presents for the children, and a holiday meal. Group Participation You can coordinate a drive of specific items such as blankets, jackets, sweatshirts, toys, kitchenware, etc. with your office, family, child s classroom or sports team, or any other group you may be involved with. If interested, please contact us for details and to coordinate pick-up and/or delivery arrangements. Getting Started Step 1: Fill out the Adopt-A-Family Commitment Card found on Page 5, indicating the number of families or individuals you would like to adopt or the size of your Express Adoption and send to Volunteer Services by Dec. 1. Step 2: Receive Wishlist(s) for families or individuals, based on your request. Step 3: Purchase a $25 grocery gift card per each family member, and following the Wishlist provided, purchase a $25-$35 household gift and a $15-$20 gift for each child in the family. Step 4: Deliver unwrapped, clearly labeled gifts and grocery gift cards to St. Joseph Center no later than Dec. 14, Gifts exceeding Wishlist guidelines may be redistributed to ensure parity. *Please write gift card denomination on each card with a permanent marker. Save the Date & Participate Individual Gift Drop Off Days: The timeframe for all individual deliveries is December 4th, 7th-11th, 9am-5pm only. However, extended hours will be available on Dec. 10th from 9am-7pm. Come by 204 Hampton Drive in Venice to drop off gifts. Group Gift Drop Off Dates: The deadline for all group deliveries is Friday, December 11th, Please coordinate all dates with Volunteer Services.
