1 OBJECTIVE Most of the college campuses have got a Wireless Network and Internet Connection 1. Any KdG student can go online on campus with his own laptop. This manual is primarily meant for new students, but can be utilised by any student that needs to reconnect to the network. This manual describes what you have got to do if Windows XP is the current Operating System on your laptop. If this is not the case, you will have to consult a different manual. (http://www.kdg.be/praktisch/ict/draadloos-internet): Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 MAC OS X 2 WORKING WIRELESS AT KDG 2.1 The Wireless Networks for students There are two Wireless Networks available for students. KDG_Open is the network for: Guests. Students that want to use the Wireless Network for the first time and therefore need to use KDG_Open as an intermediate stage. Students that are having trouble connection to KDG_Student and therefore temporarily have to rely on KDG_Open. In normal circumstances you won t connect to KDG_Open since there is no direct access to your Home Drive, the Shares or the college printers. Mind you! The data that you send through KDG_Open are NOT automatically coded and are possibly legible to others. So never send passwords, credit card data or other sensitive information through this network. KDG_Student is the common student network. It is a secured network. Your network traffic will be coded through this specific network. You do however need a once only configuration. (More further on) 2.2 Preceding checks/actions Mostly, everything is fine but it is always best to check. 1 ICT jargon is put in bold, you will have to read the rest of the text with the same subject related meaning.
