Importing Images into the ipad Using Dropbox Introduction ipad supports standard photo formats such as JPEG, TIFF, GIF, and PNG. In order to create accessible books on the ipad, the user needs to be able to import the books scanned images into the ipad s Photo Library. By installing the free application, Dropbox on your computer and ipad you can share photos and images between the two devices.. This tutorial assumes that You have an ipad and a computer. You have an internet connection for the computer and a wifi connection for the ipad. Learning Objectives Completion of this tutorial will give you experience with the following: Downloading and installing the Dropbox application to your computer. Searching for an App at the App Store. Downloading an App to the ipad. Importing folders of images onto the ipad using the Dropbox application. Saving images to the ipad photo library. Case Study Tracey is a student with autism in grade 1. She is highly motivated by listening to picture books. Her school team and her parents would like Tracey to become independent with story reading so that she can participate autonomously during silent reading at school. So far, Tracey and her support team have used an ipad that she received from Set-BC. Now, they want to design their own talking books to complement the curriculum that Tracey and her fellow students are following. Import Images Using DropBox You can import images onto your ipad by using the free application Dropbox. First, you will need to download the Dropbox application to your computer. Go to Dropbox.com and locate Download Dropbox. Below this, click on the link appropriate for your computer platform. If the download does not start, click on the link, restart the download. Select computer platform 1 2 If you are using a Windows computer you will need to: Click Run from the download window. From the User Account Control window, click Yes to allow changes. Dropbox Setup Options: 3 You will need to create a Dropbox account. From the Setup window, select I don t have a Dropbox account and click Next. In the Create a Dropbox Account window, fill in the necessary information to create your account and then click Create account. In the Setup Size window, choose the free box size and click Next. In the Setup Type window, choose Typical and click Install. 4 Learn about Dropbox: A welcome screen opens and a tour of Dropbox is presented. It is a good idea to take the tour! When you are finished with the tour, click Finish - your Dropbox folder will open. This shows you what is currently in Dropbox. (A Dropbox icon is also now in your computer s task tray at the bottom of your computer display.) Dropbox status icons: o o All files in your Dropbox are up to date. 5 Adding folders to Dropbox: Locate your folder of images you want to put into Dropbox. In this example, I have located and opened my folder, Scans for Daphne. Drag and drop a folder of images into the Dropbox folder. In this example, I have dragged and dropped, A Visit for Bear into the Dropbox folder. Notice the status has changed for Dropbox. Adding this folder will take a few minutes. You are finished with the computer. Now move to your ipad. 6 To install the Dropbox App onto your ipad: Tap App Store on your ipad. Tap the App Store icon. 7 In the App Store locate the search field in the top right corner. In the Search field, enter Dropbox and tap to search for the App. A list of Apps will appear. Dropbox should be the first on the list. Tap Free to begin the download process. (Tap Install if prompted.) A sign-in window will appear - enter your itunes login name and password. Sync Dropbox on the computer with Dropbox on the ipad: 8 When the app has finished downloading, tap the Dropbox icon to open the app. A logon screen opens. Enter your Dropbox account information...from Step 3. The contents of your Dropbox will be added to your Dropbox folder on the ipad! An intro tour of slides is now available. Swipe to move through the 4 slides. Tap Done when you have finished with the intro. 9 Add the images from Dropbox to the Photo Library on ipad: The available folders are listed on the left of the Dropbox window. Tap on a folder name...in this example, AVisitForBear, to see a listing of all the images in the folder. Tap on the first image to see a preview of the image in the preview window.
