What is Remote Web Access? Remote Web Access enables staff to connect to their Work Computer via the Internet. This is a useful tool for those staff who work from home or away from the office. Staff can access files, folders, applications and emails as if they were logged in on to their Office PC when on Campus. They can save files directly to their personal (P:\) and shared (S\) drives and also work within Ātea. The Microsoft Office 2010 applications are also available on the Remote Desktop for staff to use. Use VPN to Connect to the Whitireia Network From your Internet Browser (eg Internet Explorer), type in the following web address - https://vpn.whitireia.ac.nz and press the ENTER key. If a security message appears Click on the second option to proceed further. The following screen appears: Username type in your Whitireia Network Logon ID (example: John Smith, User ID - SmiJoh) Password type in your Whitireia Network Password, then Click the Sign In button to view the window on the following page 1 16-Feb-12
WhitireiaNZ Remote Web Access - Home page Controls in the Top Right corner Click the Home option to return you to the Remote Web Access home page Session displays the amount of time you are currently logged in. To exit Remote Web Access, click the Sign Out link to end your session. If you have logged out of Remote Web Access and wish to sign in again, click the Click here to sign in link to return to the login window. 2 16-Feb-12
Web Bookmarks For easy access, the Web Bookmarks area provides access to frequently used web pages such as the Intranet and E-mail. Intranet Click this link to access the Whitireia intranet homepage. When viewing the intranet via Remote Access, the Intranet opens in a new window. To return to the Remote Access screen click the cross in the top right hand corner of the Intranet window to close it. Email This web bookmark gives access to login to Outlook Web Apps email. Email can also be accessed from the remote desktop using Start All Programs Microsoft Office MsOutlook 2010 Whitireia Remote Desktop To use Remote Desktop when off campus, users can select Low, Med or High depending on internet speed. Select your internet speed from one of the Remote Desktop options below, and the Remote Desktop window should appear as shown on page 4. 3 16-Feb-12
When you click on a link for the first time, the following pop up message may appear Security Certificate Click to place a tick in the Always trust content from this publisher Click Yes Click Run Once the install has finished, you will be taken to the Remote Web Remote Desktop has MS Office 2010 and Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) installed. Office 2010 applications are accessed via the Start menu under All Programs, Microsoft Office then choose the application required eg Word. Staff can access their P and S drives, and can save files to these drives as needed or upload files to Ātea. 4 16-Feb-12
