1 OneDrive for Business from Desktop or Laptop Windows devices OneDrive for Business (previously called SkyDrive Pro) is cloud based file store that comes as part of the Uel Office365 subscription. It provides file store that is accessible from any machine, and in various ways. Note One Drive for Business differs from the OneDrive (formally SkyDrive) product, which is designed for personal use. They are related in name only. Initial setup and accessing using the browser 1. Initially you will need to initialize your OneDrive file space via the web browser. Browse to 2. Login to the Office 365 portal with your UEL account and password, using the fully qualified username. For example 3. You will be taken to the UEL SharePoint system. Click the OneDrive item in the top menu bar to view the OneDrive contents.

2 4. To upload files, you can choose the upload button or even drag drop files from File Explorer on your PC or other places. It will then become stored on the Office365 servers, and be available via the web from anywhere. As with all file store, you should create a sensible and logical folder structure here. By default there will be just one folder called Shared with Everyone. That folder is also empty. OneDrive for Business can also be used to Share Documents with others, both inside and outside the University. With the exception of documents placed into the Shared with Everyone Folder, all documents are private until deliberately shared. Using One Drive for Business from Office You can also save and open files to and from the OneDrive for Business folder directly from the Office suite. This works best with Office From within MS Word, choose File followed by Account 2. Then Add a Service. 3. Finally, choose Office 365 SharePoint Note, if available do not choose OneDrive here. This refers to the personal OneDrive product (previously called SkyDrive) and not the OneDrive for Business product.

3 4. You will be prompted to logon. Enter your UEL username and password. 5. Once authenticated, you should see the University of East London location added to the list of connected services within Office. This location will now appear in the File Open and File Save menus automatically. This makes it extremely easy to create documents and store them directly on OneDrive for Business

4 Caching OneDrive for Business locally, and making files available offline You can also configure your machine to automatically synchronize your One Drive for Business/Office 365 file store to your local C: drive. You can then use the normal Windows File Explorer to open and save files as if they were stoed on the local PC, or on University filestore.. This also has the advantage of making your files available while not connected to a network. To set this up, you need to do the following: 6. Ensure that none of the Office applications such as Word or Excel are currently running. Close all documents before proceeding. 7. Go to the browser version first via and login as normal. 8. Choose the OneDrive item from the menu 9. Click on the Sync Button. 10. Choose Sync Now in the next window.

5 On a UEL UDE workstation or laptop, there is no need to follow the Get the OneDrive for Business app link, as it is already installed as part of the Office 2013 suite 11. Click Sync Now 12. In the Internet Explorer Security warning, tick the Do not show me warnings option 13. Click Allow 14. You may be presented with another login box. Enter your UEL account again 15. Click Next.

6 16. There is a bug here that may mean nothing happens when you click next. If this is the case, click the username box again (so that it has focus and the cursor is back in the username box) and press ENTER 17. Enter your UEL password and ensure that the Keep me signed in option is ticked 18. Click Sign In 19. Click Sync Now. The required URL will be automatically filled in from the Office365 cloud.

7 20. The synchronization will start in the background. You don t have to wait for it. Click the Show My Files button 21. Clicking Show My Files will open Windows File Explorer and show you the local folder which will now be kept in Sync with OneDrive for Business. 22. You will notice that this folder also appears in the Favorite Shortcuts in Windows Explorer as well as File Open / Save dialogs. This way, it is always one click away.
