Position Title: RMDA Blended/Online Teacher Date Approved: June 2, 2015 Date Revised March 10, 2016 Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Exempt Work Calendar: 209 days SUMMARY: Responsible for the instruction of students in an online environment, counseling with students and parents to assure academic and career success and supporting the recruitment of online students. The primary responsibilities of the Blended Online Teacher are: student engagement, instruction, student success, and facilitating postsecondary success. The Blended Online Teacher collaborates with other school staff to: support data-based decision-making, promote student achievement, and ensure that each student successfully achieves program goals. Demonstrate knowledge of the state standards and how both align with the online curriculum provider. Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual characteristics of students/parents; specifically, how this impacts support needed. Utilizes asynchronous and synchronous tools to augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures set by the district. Orients students to course and communicates course requirements. Maintains regular office hours and conducts instructional sessions face to face and virtual. Responsible for student academic progress and attendance Balance flexibility of the online curriculum with school s policies and procedures. Conduct conferences with students and parents/responsible adult. Individualize instruction to help each student achieve their grade specific curricular objectives and meet Colorado State Standards. Grades student work and maintains grade book. Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student s achievement. Alert administrator to any concerns about student performance and progress. Recommends promotion and retention. Maintains regular contact with students and families Organize social and educational activities for students and families. Establish and maintain a positive rapport with assigned families. Support students with set-up and maintenance of their teaching environment. Support students through basic computer troubleshooting. Collaborates with peers on student performance and students needs. Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletter and events. Travel to and participate in staff meetings, face to face student testing and professional development sessions when necessary. Ensure that student ICAP s (Individual Career and Academic Plan) are consistently updated, collaborating with other RMDA staff members when necessary. Support RMDA s concurrent enrollment, internships, and community involvement programs. Collaborate with the RMDA leadership staff to support data-based decision-making to promote student achievement and alignment among curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Specific subjects of interest include: English, Science, Math, History, Foreign Language, and Electives, including STEM. Bachelors degree plus additional coursework required for certification or licensure. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and EXPERIENCE: Teaching experience. Experience working with the proposed age group and supporting adults and children in the use of technology preferred. Must have high level of verbal and written communication skills. Must have a positive attitude and perception about the educational task. Experience with online learning is preferred, but not required. Must be flexible with working hours. Should be willing to expand online teaching best practices through professional development. Should have expertise in virtual and online pedagogy and online learning tools. Knowledgeable of best practices related to individual student learning. Experience in working with 'at risk' populations preferred. English language skills required. Must be very self-motivated. Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Travel required CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Colorado teaching license currently eligible with the appropriate endorsement for this position or is otherwise highly qualified for the position. Certificate in Online Teaching preferred. Valid Colorado driver s license required for hire. CTE Authorization preferred or willing to obtain authorization.
