1 Job: Location: Occupational Medicine Physician (Level II Certified) Full Time Aurora Job Title: Level II Certified Occupational Medicine Physician (MD/DO) Department: Providers Reports To: Medical Director FLSA Status: Exempt Prepared By: Human Resources Prepared Date: January 2013 Approved By: Human Resources Approved Date: January 2013 The RMUC&FM provider will be responsible for both direct patient care and for other administrative duties as designated by the Medical Director and his/her designee and in accordance with the Colorado Medical Practice Act. The Medical Director will provide the overall direction for all patient care activities. Physician s duties include, but are not limited to: 1. Provide occupational medical services to the patients, inclusive of all functions necessary to provide quality medical care. 2. Serve as supervisory physician for the mid-level providers regarding clinical issues and State regulatory requirements. 3. Serve as an educational preceptor for the clinical staff including: a. Respond to questions/consultations of the staff. b. Plan and teach in-services. c. Follow medical protocols, handouts and clinical standards. d. Review and co-sign medical charts of patients who the mid-level medical providers have seen and about whom they have consulted with the physicians. e. Assist in expanding the competencies of the clinical staff. ADMINISTRATIVE EXPECTATIONS Category One: Primary Job Functions 1. Practice using sound medical judgment and adhere to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; know limitations and seek consult when advisable; keep abreast of current medical treatment guidelines and industry standards. 2. Precept and teach mid-level medical providers enhancing their professional experience; advise clinical supervisor of any associated issues and provide ongoing performance assessments.
2 3. Meet all clinical obligations of the Health Center s medical practice: CLIA medical supervision, drug outlet, co-signing, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations, etc. 4. Follow all internal policies and procedures; be accountable for completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical processing/documentation. 5. Advise administration of any issues that may impact the practice. 6. All Physicians are to begin work on time in order to maintain the terms of this contract. 7. All Physicians are to see patients in a timely and efficient manner, staying reasonably on time for scheduled appointments throughout the day, unless exceptional circumstances occur. Patient relations, consumer satisfaction and long standing Company goals of staying on time necessitate this important consideration. 8. The financial viability of the Company requires that all physicians be held accountable for their actions with regard to proper coding and appropriate charging for all services rendered. 9. Charting in the patient s medical record is routinely to be completed on the same day as the patient s visit. 10. Physicians will be capable of performing the care services listed below (or willing to learn those services that they may not be proficient in). This is not a comprehensive list of services expected to be performed but an example: a. Occupational Medicine Services b. Minor surgery (toe nail removal, mole and cyst removal, foreign object removal, etc.). c. Suturing. d. Fine Needle Aspirations. e. Casting/Splinting, f. General Orthopedic Evaluations/Management, g. Review of x-rays (Radiologist reports usually available), h. Basic rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries, i. General Dermatology, j. General Eye Problems k. General EKG interpretations l. Emergency management skills m. ACLS and PALS Certification Required n. General GYN Expertise Category Two: Administrative Relations and Accountability 1. Demonstrate on-going support and respect for administration in all communications, either Privately with staff or in a group setting. 2. Address any administrative issues directly and in private with those concerned. 3. Time management: utilize time on the job for RMUC&FM related activities and for the Assigned tasks during specific blocked-out times by administration; routinely see patients in The time allotted, adjusting to daily patient flow issues to remain on schedule. 4. Work productivity must demonstrate ability to see a minimum case load of 20 patients per day; effectively work patients into their schedules as caseload demands and respond to a Variety of unforeseen daily circumstances, including emergency care of patients. 5. Adhere to administrative priorities, without setting conflicting personal ones. 6. Serve as a role model. 7. Contract physicians are not routinely involved in internal practice management issues, however, their ideas, views and comments can be directed to the Clinic Manager who serves as the clinician s administrative voice. Internal practice management issues include,
3 but are not limited to, personnel issues, administrative decision making, departmental priority setting, and creation of operational policies and procedures; in addition, physician advice and input will periodically be sought and constructive suggestions welcomed; however, goals and operational processes are established internally. 8. Reporting: all physicians report directly to the Medical Director and his/her designees, which Include the Clinic Managers and the Regional Managers. 9. Physicians must be flexible, adapt to change, and serve as a role model for staff through interactions; physicians should at times think outside the box, providing possible resolutions/solutions to issues/concerns, rather than simply pointing out a problem area. 10. Comply with all HIPAA rules and regulations. Category Three: Staff Development 1. Assist in creating a constructive professional atmosphere for the staff by being a positive influence; actions/comments should enhance morale and staff relations. 2. Serve as a resource for administration in various capacities related to a wide range of needs; meet periodically with administration at their request, either routinely or on an as needed basis. 3. Serve as a role model for staff by setting a good example, which includes but is not limited to punctuality, demeanor, communication, customer service, work load, etc. 4. Learn new technologies and commit to providing leadership and training to the staff as new technologies are implemented. 5. Primary Care Physicians are responsible for call coverage (phone coverage only). Category Four: Supervisory SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Midlevel Personnel: Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Patient Care Technician oversight of IV Medical Mixture and Administration Patient Care Technician oversight x-ray EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Must possess a Medical License through the State of Colorado Must possess Level II Certification from the Colorado Division of Workers Compensation Maintain Basic Life Support Card Maintain Board Certification Maintain licensure/certification per State guidelines Must demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care. Demonstrate the ability to maintain good inter-personal relationships with co-workers and health team members Communicates through appropriate channels Demonstrate ability to calculate drug dosages Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively Document continuing education per licensure and certification requirements and clinic protocols DESIRED CERTIFICATES
4 Level II Certification from Colorado Division of Workers Compensation CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE Provide customer service in accordance to clinic mission Demonstrate ability to be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements Enact proper chain of command for patient complaints LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, and the general public MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent written and verbal communication, teaching ability and good telephone skills.
