Absolute Extreme Points To find absolute extrema of a continuous function f (x) on a closed interval [a, b], plug in critical points, singular points and endpoints into f (x) (that are in the interval) to get the highest and lowest points of the function. Find the absolute extrema of f (x) = x 2 + 1 on the interval [ 1, 2].
