41st Douzelage General Meeting Tryavna, 12th May 15th May, 2016 Newsletter No. 2 February 2016 Welcome to Tryavna! Municipality of Tryavna is pleased to host the 41 st Douzelage General Meeting in Tryavna, Bulgaria from May 12th until May 15th 2016. Delegations Municipality of Tryavna is pleased to invite five people from each Douzelage town as official delegation: Two people for the General Meeting, preferably at least one of them should be a representative of the local government. One person for the Education Workshop (Teacher, someone working with extracurricular or interest education, community outreach, youth activities manager or similar position) Two youth delegates for the Youth workshops, ages 18-29 All accommodations will be provided in Kalina Palace Hotel****, Tryavna (http://www.kalinapalace.com). In the attached registration form, please indicate your room preference single or double. Due to the limited capacity of the hotel, we strongly urge you to choose double rooms to ensure that all the delegates can stay in the same hotel..additional guests are very welcome to visit Tryavna, provided that they cover
their own accommodation and meal expenses. The cost for non-delegates will not exceed 200 EUR, including the accommodations and meals, and it is likely to be less than that. Accommodation for the additional guests will be provided also at Kalina Palace Hotel****. Delegates who wish to arrive a day early or stay a day afterwards should pay the price for bed and breakfast for an extra day (30-35 EUR for a single room and 20-25 EUR for a double one). Flying to Bulgaria Bulgaria has four commercial airports Sofia, Varna, Burgas and Plovdiv. Many international airlines operate regular flights to Bulgaria all year round. From the UK, British Airways, Air Bulgaria, Austrian Airways, WizzAir, Sky Europe, Alitalia and Lufthansa fly directly to Sofia. The national airline is Bulgaria Air (www.air.bg). Sofia Airport is the biggest Bulgarian airport (http://www.sofia-airport.bg/) that is flying to and from all important European destinations. It is highly recommended to fly to Sofia Airport. Getting to Tryavna Tryavna is located 250 kilometers from the capital Sofia. It takes nearly 3 hours to get to Tryavna. Municipality of Tryavna will organize a collective bus transfer from the International Sofia Airport to Tryavna. Please indicate on the Registration forms, if you will be needing transfers from and back to the airport. This service will be available for both arriving on Thursday and departing from Tryavna on Sunday morning. As soon as we receive your Registrations we will be able to book buses and find out price for roundtrip ticket. You may also opt to rent a car, which is relatively inexpensive and convenient. The Douzelage contact We should check the documentation carefully and then send it to Mr. Cezary Salamonczik on 1 st of April. After that he will inform the towns, the candidates will be able to start their campaign. Educational meeting The main theme of the education workshop is "Informal education". Education delegates should be teachers or education specialists, who work closely with the youth organize activities, support and supervise youth initiatives, engage and support youth projects, either in curricular or extra-curricular setting. For the first part of the workshop the Education Delegates are kindly asked to prepare a poster on the theme "Informal education". The poster session will be held in the conference hall of the Cultural center. The delegates should be ready to engage in discussion.
The second part of the workshop will be devoted to school visits educational institutions tour. Delegates will have the opportunity to share experience and good practices with their Bulgarian colleagues as well as possibilities for education projects and future plans for collaboration among Douzelage partners. Youth meeting The main theme of the youth workshop is "Traditions of my region". The youth delegates have to prepare some handmade souvenirs or any kind of specific for their region works which represent their traditions and crafts and bring them to Tryavna. Exhibition on the theme Traditions of my region" will be placed at the square in front of the Cultural center. The youth delegates, ages 18 29, will be involved through engaging and hands-on activities in order to better capitalize on the creativity and ingenuity of young minds. They will attend workshops in groups together with teachers and students from the National arts and crafts school (associated member of the Global School Network of UNESCO): - woodcarving workshop (at the school building); - icon painting workshop (at the school building); - urban art installations workshop ( square in front of the Cultural center). *the delegates will be divided into 4 groups which will work following a simple rotation. 2 groups will be working in the school building and the other at the square and then they will rotate.
The youth participants will create an urban installation exhibition of their works. The workshop will provide the opportunity for the youth to ponder the integration of traditional culture and values in modern times. The youth delegates will also participate in two smaller workshops, which will highlight Bulgarian traditions and culture - folk dance workshop and ivy painting workshop. For these workshops, the youth delegates will be mixed with educational delegates. Delegates will have an opportunity to show what they learned during the Official dinner. A guided tour of Tryavna will be organized for all GM, EM and YM delegates.
