How to Use Freegal on your ipad/iphone 1. Open up the official App store on your device. This will be the App Store on the ipad and iphone, and the Play Store for an Android device. 2. In the search box in the top right corner enter "Freegal" a. Select "Freegal Music" b. At the right of the app description, tap the "GET" button 3. The button will change to an "Install" button. Tap on this button to install the app 4. When the app is done being installed, tap the "OPEN" button to launch it. 5. If you would like the app to locate the nearest libraries to offer the service, tap "OK" when asked if Freegal can use your current location. If you tap "Don't Allow" you can search by location. 6. If you would like to get notifications from Freegal on your device, tap on "OK." Otherwise, tap Don t Allow
7. Enter your zip code in the search box to find libraries near you. Tap Go 8. Choose "Waterloo Public Library" 9. Enter your library card number 10. You will need to tap Agree to the end user license agreement.
Searching for Music The main screen of the Freegal app will feature the top ten Freegal downloads. Tap the Library Top Ten tab to see what people in Waterloo are downloading. At the top you will see how many downloads you have left for the week. 0/3 means you still have 3 downloads left. 3/3 means you have used all of your downloads. To browse through different genres tap on the "Browse" button on the bottom of the screen.
You can browse by top artists, top songs and top genres. To search for specific titles and artists click on the magnifying glass at the top right corner. After you tap "Search", you will be brought to a new screen. In the search box, type in what you want to find. Tap the tab for Artist, Song, or Album if you want to limit your search.
Downloading Music To download a song, tap the arrow to the right of the title. NOTE Once you have clicked on the arrow, you cannot cancel the download, even if you close out the app. When you are done searching for music, click on the blue "Done" button. To listen to the music you have downloaded, click on "My Music" at the bottom of the screen. Streaming Music You can stream up to three hours a day using the app. To begin streaming: 1. Tap the blue arrow to the left of any title. 2. A popup will appear asking if you want to stream the song. 3. Tap on OK to begin listening. If you wish to stream an album, tap the title of a song. The complete album will open up. Then click on "Stream Album." Playlists You can stream from Freegal playlists or you can create your own. Begin by tapping the Playlist icon at the bottom of the screen You can tap on Freegal Playlists to listen to previously created lists To create your own list, tap "Create New Playlist."
Then choose "Streaming Playlist" A search box will open up where you can search for songs to add to your playlist Tap the checkbox next to the songs you want to add When you have finished selecting songs, tap "Done" at the top right. Can you take me through the main areas of the Freegal App? Home Screen This screen shows certain featured albums, and allows quick browsing of the TOP 10 recent downloads by your fellow library patrons, and the TOP 10 recent downloads of all the Freegal users in your country The upper right corner has your weekly download allocation, and the number that you have used in the current week The search icon is in the upper right side as well The play button is to play a song clip (or stream the song if your library has a streaming subscription), and the downward pointing arrow is to download music The bottom of the home page has the major functionality buttons described below My Music My Music is where all your songs are stored. Once you download a song, this is where it goes.
Playlist This is where you can create shortcuts to your favorite music. Most people will use this after they have downloaded a lot of songs. This way they can separate their classical music from their workout music, etc. You can create multiple playlists to organize your music. Once you create a playlist, you will have the music both in My Music and in the Playlist area. Browse In this area, you will be able to quickly browse the most popular Artists, Songs, Genres, and Music Videos by selecting these options from a navigation bar at the top of the screen in the Browse area. More This section contains the Settings page, where you can logout of the application, and the My Music Videos page The My Music Videos page holds your music video downloads just like your My Music page holds your downloaded songs. NOTES If your library has a streaming subscription you will see a Recent tab instead of My Music, and the My Music page will be grouped in the More section with My Music Videos and Settings The Recent page contains a list of all songs that you have streamed that particular day. As a Freegal Music user, you can download a song again for the purpose of having a copy in your itunes and in the Freegal Music App You can do that within 2 weeks of your original download by accessing your library s Freegal site via a computer, and accessing the recent downloads functionality on the navigation bar of the home page. How do I Delete a Song off my Mobile Device? 1. In the "My Music" section of the app, you will see a list of songs that you have downloaded 2. If you swipe to the side on one of the songs, an option to delete will appear. How do I backup Freegal Music from my ios mobile device into itunes? 1. Plug your ios device into your computer. Please select "Yes" if you see a pop-up asking if you trust this device. 2. Open up itunes on your computer and you should see your device appear to the right of the "More button" on the left side of your screen.
3. On the left of your computer screen you will see the option bar. Select "Apps" and scroll down to the bottom of the page. 4. Click to highlight Freegal Music under "File Share". A folder named after your library card number will appear to the right of your screen. 5. Click to highlight the folder shown, then click "Save To". A popup will appear to select where to save the file. (It's easiest to select Desktop and click "Save to".) 6. On your desktop, or wherever you elected to save it, you should see this folder. 7. Click to open the folder on your computer 8. Drag and drop the song files back into your Music Library within itunes. This will add the song(s) to itunes where you can sync it to any other device using itunes. NOTE PC-users will not see "Save to" when saving the file to their desktop rather they will see "Select Folder". Click this button where your songs and folder will transfer the same. Instructions for Apple Devices There are two ways to get music onto your Apple device: You can download directly to your computer and sync through itunes Use the Freegal App o When you use the Freegal app, you can only play the songs through the Freegal app; the music is not added to the rest of your collection o In addition, when playing music through the Freegal app, you need to keep the app open - it will stop playing if you open another application. We recommend downloading to your computer first. How to get Music onto your Computer from the Mobile App Transfer from Apple device to computer 1. Plug your ipad or iphone into your computer 2. Open up itunes and click on your device in the left column or top right. 3. At the top of the screen you will have options like "summary, info, apps, music, movies, etc." Select "Apps" 4. From there, scroll down to the bottom under "File Sharing" and select the Freegal app. 5. Once highlighted, you should view a file that contains the music downloaded from the app 6. Take that file and drag it to your desktop background. This will save the music to your desktop.
7. Now that the music is on your desktop, you can move the songs into itunes by dragging and dropping each one into the program. 8. Now your music from the Freegal application is in your itunes on your computer! From there you can move music anywhere you like! Re-download files on your computer You can re-download a song two times within 14 days. (HINT: you may need to log out of the Freegal Application to do this. You log out by going to Settings within the Freegal App, and then selecting Logout ). 1. Click on the link in the left sidebar for "Downloads" under "My Downloads."
