Cisco AnyConne ect VPN Access to the UAHN Network Use of the Cisco AnyConnect computer client software allowss you to access the UAHN computer network, and to use the UAHN computer systems as if you were on one off the UAHN campuses. Using the AnyConnect software creates a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and allows secure exchange of data. To install and use the AnyConnect software requires you to have a UAHN computer login, and rights to use VPN. If you do not have the VPN rights, please contact your department administrator who manages your rights, or call the UAHN Help Desk at 520.694.4357. Installing Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Clientt There are two possibilities to complete the VPN client installation. Option 1 performs the install automatically. If the first option fails, you will need to follow the steps in option 2. Instructions for both are detailed below. 1. Install via the website (Internet Explorer or Java completion with alternative browser) 2. Install via the website (Javaa failure with alternative browser) Option 1: Installl via the website Option 1 may be performed either using Internet Explorer, orr relying on Java completion with an alternative browser. Note that if this option fails, you will need to follow the steps for option 2. 1. Open your browser and connect to https://vpn.umcaz.edu/ 2. Login with your UAHN network Active Directory (AD) user credentials. 3. Once authenticated the installation will begin. You will see the following windows. Page 1 of 6

5. The software will downloadd automatically. 6. The installation will complete and your VPN session will be established. 7. Once established, your VPN connection will have a new icon (picture below) in the system tray (bottom right of your screen). 8. If you are finished working with the UAHN network at this time, disconnect the VPN. Note that while you are connected to UAHN via VPN, you are subject to UAHN network activity monitoring, and UAHN website filtering. You are advised to limit your Internet usage while connected via VPN to UAHN related only. This will ensure appropriate privacy of your Internet activity. To Disconnect, find the VPN connection iconn in your system tray. Right click and choose disconnect. To conserve resources, your VPN connection will timeout after a period of no activity. Option 2: Installl via the website Option 2 may be performed using an alternativee browser (not Internet Explorer) when the Java steps in option 1 failed. 1. Open your browser and connect to https://vpn.umcaz.edu/ 2. Login with your UAHN network AD user credentials. 3. Once authenticated the installer will try to start, and then fail. 4. Click the link that reads Windows 7/Vista/64/XP. 5. This will download the VPN client installer to your computer. Download the file to an easily accessible location on your computer. Take note of this location. 6. Once downloaded, locate the file and double click thee file to run the VPN installer. 7. The installer will launch and show you the following screen. Click Next. 8. Next you will need to accept the license agreement. Click Next. Page 4 of 6
9. Finally, click Install. 10. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client will install. 11. Once the installation is complete, click Finish. 12. If you are finished working with the UAHN network at this time, disconnect the VPN. Note that while you are connected to UAHN via VPN, you are subject to UAHN network activity monitoring, and UAHN website filtering. Using the VPN 13. Now launch the AnyConnect application. It can be found on the start menu under: Programs > Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. Consider making a desktop shortcut if you will be using the VPN frequently. 14. In the drop down box type: vpn.umcaz.edu and click connect. The entry is vpn..umcaz.edu 15. This will launch a dialog box where your UAHN network AD credentials will need to be entered. 16. Once authenticated, you will need to accept the connection agreement. 17. You are now connected. 18. Once established your VPN connection will have a new icon (pictured below) in the system tray (below right of your screen). 19. Proceed to perform the work you intended to do while connected to UAHN. Note that while you are connected to UAHN via VPN, you are subject to UAHN network activity monitoring, and UAHN websitee filtering. You are advised to limit yourr Internet usage while connected via VPN to UAHN related usage only. This will ensure appropriate privacy of your Internett activity. To conserve resources, your VPN connection will timeout after a period of no activity. 20. When complete, find the VPN connection icon in your system tray. Right click and choose disconnect.
