1 How to access UCSD Restricted Library Journals off campus, including from Rady Children's hospital. Most library e-journals & databases are restricted to use on campus, or use off-campus only by current UCSD faculty, staff, and students. To access these resources from off-campus, use one of these options. These instructions will guide you through connecting to the UCSD library using the 2X client or the UCSD VPN. This guide assumes that you have already installed either the 2X Client or the UCSD VPN. If you have not installed either the 2X Client or VPN please reference the instruction sheets on the Pediatrics Information Services website. 2 Accessing Library Journals through the VPN on a Windows or MAC OS 1 Sign on Go to the VPN Sign-On page, and sign on Use allthruucsd when accessing Library resources Click Start AnyConnect. When the screen below appears, you've successfully connected to the UCSD VPN using the Cisco AnyConnect Client. This may take several seconds. 3 iphone Access with VPN 1. Connect to the VPN. Select Settings. Slide the VPN switch to the ON position. 2 Go to libraries.ucsd.edu Go to libraries.ucsd.edu and search library journals as if you were on campus. Pediatrics Information Services 3

4 Android access VPN 1. Enter your AD username and password. Select the group Easyconnect, Allthruucsd or Split. Enter your Active Directory (AD) username and password. 2. Finish Connection. Select I trust this application. Select OK. 3. Go to libraries.ucsd.edu Go to libraries.ucsd.edu and search library journals as if you were on campus. Pediatrics Information Services 4

5 Using the 2X Client to access library journals with Windows After you have installed the 2X Client, you can now launch the 2X Client to access your desktop Launching the 2X Client To open the 2X Client: Start > [All] Programs > 2X > 2X Client > 2X Client Pediatrics Information Services 5

6 Listing of Published Applications Using Folders After configuring the 2X Client simply click OK. If you entered a valid username and password and the server IP address and port are correct, you should see the list of published applications available to your username/computer/ip address in the main window. 2X Client main window with published applications. If you want to create shortcuts for your published applications on your local desktop computer, simply right click an application and select Create shortcut. A shortcut for that application will be placed on your desktop. Double click your preferred Internet browser, go to libraries.ucsd.edu and search library journals as if you were on campus. 7 USING 2X CLIENT with Mac Graphical User Interface To launch published applications using Graphical user Interface, follow these steps. 1. Launch the 2X Client 2. Click on File > Add new 2X Connection Mac 2X Client Adding a Connection Pediatrics Information Services 7

8 Mac 2X Client Application Browser 4. When you click the OK button you will get the Application Browser window where the published applications are listed. 5. Double click on any application to launch it. 6. Execution of the published application as displayed in the figure below. 9 USING 2X CLIENT with iphone ios 2X Client Connection Select the 2X Client connection that you have set up on your ios device. A list of published applications and desktops will appear. 2X Client for ipad Application List Tap on a published application to open. Double click EXPLORER.EXE, go to libraries.ucsd.edu and search library journals as if you were on campus. Pediatrics Information Services 9

10 USING 2X CLIENT with Android 2X Client Connection Tap the 2X Client Connection that you have configured on your Android device to open. A list of published applications and desktops will appear. 2X Client for Android 2X Connection Applications Note: To create a shortcut for a published application shown above, tap and hold the application and press Add Shortcut. Tap on any application to open. Double click BROWSERS, go to libraries.ucsd.edu and search library journals as if you were on campus. Pediatrics Information Services 10
