A. Primary & High Schools National Championships in March 2010 MUST participate in the Regional Trials. NO TIME TRIALS will be considered. The SA Primary Schools will take place in Port Elizabeth and the SA High Schools will take place in Bloemfontein on the weekend of 5-7 March 2010. All swimmers have to compete at one of the regional galas in order to qualify for selection for the provincial team. No time trials will be permitted. Swimmers registered with clubs may enter the regional galas electronically through their club structures on condition that the information pages are completed. (Page 2 for abled-bodied & page 4 for LSEN) VERY IMPORTANT 2. All swimmers need to complete the attached entry form. 3. All LSEN swimmers (primary & high) will participate at the regional gala at Delville Pool in Germiston. These swimmers must still enter as explained below and entries must include the classification number. Multi-disability events for both the Primary & Secondary Schools have been included at the National Schools Championships 4. Please note that the events for the LSEN swimmers for the Regional trials take place on Saturday only ( Sat 30 th Jan National Schools Championships: 1. The Regional Galas will serve as trials for the selection of a Primary Schools Aquatics Team & Secondary Schools Aquatics Team to represent Gauteng at the National Schools Championships. 2. The dates & venues for the S. A. Schools Championships is the weekend of 5-7 March 2010 in Bloemfontein for High Schools and Port Elizabeth for Primary Schools. 3. The 9 year old category for the National Schools Championships was discontinued two years ago. No swimmer turning 9 years old this year (born in 2001) will be allowed to swim at the Regional Galas, as they cannot be selected for the National event. 4. Funding from the National Department of Sport has not been finalized as yet, so parents MAY BE required to pay for accommodation and certain catering should their swimmers be selected for the Primary Schools Aquatics Team & Secondary Schools Aquatics Team. However, the Gauteng Department of Education & Sport will attempt to assist with logistical support. 5. The SSA transformation policy and S.A. Schools mandates will apply in the selection of the final team 6. All swimmers are eligible to enter the Regional Trials and do not have to have achieved a qualifying time. 7. Please note that swimmers MUST achieve a Qualifying Time at the Regional Trials in order to be considered for selection for the SA National Primary & High school Champs and swimmers who are placed 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd in an event are not automatically selected. 8. Please see attached qualifying times for selection to the SA National Primary & High School competition. Entries: An individual swimmer is responsible to ensure that his/her entry is completed and submitted by the school or club he/she attends. Swimmers can enter as many events as they wish. Payment: The Gauteng Department of Education & Sport will be funding the logistics for the regional galas. Therefore, there will be no individual entry fee but adult spectators will be charged an entry fee to the gala. The Gala The meet will administered according to FINA rules. The one start rule will apply. All galas will take place in long course (50 meter) pools. The times achieved at the Gauteng Regional & National Schools Championships will be submitted to SSA via the relevant provincial federation or S.A. Schools.
