1 PRIMARY SCHOOLS SWIMMING INFORMATION DATE: Thursday 7 April 2011 TIME: The first race will start at 9.00am. Competitors in the first four races will be marshalled at 8.45am sharp. It is unlikely that any competitors who report late to the Marshall will be accepted for racing. All races will be timed with the fastest ten swimmers qualifying for the final. Finals will follow preliminary heats in each stroke in a programme expected to conclude at approximately 2pm. As this event is run on a technological system, it is NOT possible to make changes to entrant information on the day. Schools must ensure they check the programme sent to them by the Sports Director before the day of the event. VENUE: Queen Elizabeth II Pool ENTRY RESTRICTIONS All events will be conducted under the Regulations of SNZ and FINA Rules, except where local meet rules apply. Students may enter two events plus ONE relay. If not in a relay then they may enter TWO events only. There will be finals for all races. Each race will be timed and places awarded from these times. All relays are mixed and 50m for each swimmer. Relay teams must have 4 members (a swimmer may not swim twice) consisting of 2 boys and 2 girls. Single gender schools may combine with another single gender school of the opposite gender to make a mixed relay team. An individual school must represent a zone in the relays (not a selected zone team) with the exception in the above paragraph. Also schools with a combined roll of 170 or less may form a team to represent their zone. Children must swim in their own age group except in relay races where a younger swimmer may enter in an older age group if necessary. Entries are limited to 1 per gender per age group for the 4 smallest zones per event, 2 per gender per age group for the 12 medium size zones per event and 3 per gender per age group for the 4 largest zones per event, and one relay per zone. If there is an equal situation at a zone event then a decision must be made as to who the entrant will be (ie a swim-off). Entries will only be accepted from zone secretaries, or the zone s designated replacement, on the official entry form. Zones must provide between two and four adults to assist with the running of the sports. These numbers are dependant on the size of the zone.

Absolutely no late entries will be received. Two weeks is the minimum time needed to process entries and get information back into schools. MARSHALLING Please ensure that your swimmers (including ALL members of the relay team) report to the marshalling area as required. Marshalling of the relays will commence at 8.45am and events will be marshalled in groups of one or two thereafter. PROTESTS Any protest or complaint must be made by the teacher-in-charge in writing to the Controller within 30 minutes of the occurrence. All protests shall be considered by the committee appointed and their decision shall be final. OFFICIAL DUTIES All zones are required to allocate up to 3 people for official duties who must be available at all times and not be committed to school team duties. A minimum of 30 are required for timing duties alone. These people and their area of preference or expertise must be given in the space provided on the official entry form. Zone entries may be in jeopardy if this is not completed. Should a person be unable to fulfil their obligation on the day then it is up to the zone to ensure a replacement is made and notified to the Sports Director. It will be impossible to run the event without official staffing. However as all the preliminary work is now done from the Sports Director s Office, no teacher release payments will be made.

3 Primary Schools Swimming Championships Please ensure you read the programme carefully to see if a name from your school appears in the officials list. This will be your official notification of your job for the day. If you have time-keeping responsibilities, please report to Alister Ferguson, by 8.30am at the northern end of the pool. Please be ahead of time as the event starts with the first race sharp at 9.00am. We will not be waiting for latecomers. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN STOPWATCH.
