Prerequisites Check List Please note these instructions are only for use once you have been issued with a soft or hard token by IT Services. To obtain this you will need to raise a request ticket through the ITS Helpdesk system or calling 8888. Before you can access the QMUL Desktop Service from home please ensure all Prerequisites are checked. If not you may find you are not successfully able to work from home. 1. Authorisation - You have obtained Authorisation from your Departmental /Line Manager for working from home access 2. Computer - You have a Windows, Mac, or i386 Linux computer at home with an internet connection 3. Login ID - You also have a Central College Username and Password used for QMUL email 4. Token - You has been given a soft/hard token and activated it. 5. Registration - You have been migrated onto the Active Directory Windows 8 environment. 6. Smartphone/Tablet PC or Key fob - You have access to one of the following: a. You have a modern smartphone or Tablet PC with a camera and the Quest Defender application installed. Or b. You have been provided with a Key fob (only applicable if provided by the IT Service Desk) if not refer to step 5 7. Training - You have received sufficient training by the IT Service Desk on how to use the Homeworking solution. 8. Installation - You have successfully installed the VMware View Client application to your home PC/Mac/Linux system Page 2
How to activate your soft token The Service Desk will send an email to your QMUL email address with the activation code. The client will then able to copy and paste from the email to complete the registration. The client was then able to authenticate through VMware View Remote Access Solution Page 3
How to install the VMware View Client (Required once on each PC you use at home) 1. Go to https://qmd.qmul.ac.uk/ using your Web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome) - Select Install VMware Horizon View Client 2. This will redirect you to the VMware Website. Select the correct version for your operating system, :eg 64 bit or 32 bit 3. Click Download Page 4
4. Run the downloaded file 5. Click Next Page 5
6. Accept the terms and click Next Page 6
7. Enter qmd.qmul.ac.uk in the default View Connection Server dialog box and click Next Page 7
8. Click Next 9. Click Next 10. Click Install Page 8
11. Click Finish 12. Click Yes to restart your PC Page 9
How to use the VMware View Client (Required each time you connect) 1. Once installed, open the VMware View Client application installed by selecting VMware View Client on your computer, then double click on qmd.qmul.ac.uk.enter your Central College username and password (used for your QMUL email) and select Connect (The server should be qmd.qmul.ac.uk) 2. Click Ok Page 10
3. Enter your QMUL (Office 365) username and password, and click Login 4. Enter the Quest Defender Token One Time Passcode provide by your soft or hard token Page 11
5. Select Queen Mary Remote Access and double click 6. Click Ok to accept the terms Page 12
