1. How to start using student.chuhai.edu.hk email services? You have to activate your account before using the email services provided through the student.chuhai.hk server. Please access the activation page at http://student.chuhai.hk/resetpass/activate. Student ID (e.g. 201411999H) Activation Code (e.g. (Student 201311999H ID + HKID English ) character with first three digit e.g. 201411999HA123) Alternative Email (for retrieving your password) (e.g. email@gmail.com) Fig1.1 Activation Page Please fill in the related information shown in Fig 1.1 and press the activation button. If your email is activated successfully, a message will be prompted as in Fig 1.2. Fig 1.2 Activation Successful The system will generate and send the password to the email account you have provided during the step in Fig 1.1. Please check your registered email. We recommend that you reset your password at once after your first login. (Please refer to Part 3). 2

3. How to change your password? The online system allows you to change your password. Before resetting your password, make sure you have already activated your account. Step 1: Go to the URL: http://student.chuhai.hk/resetpass, as shown in Fig 3.1. Fig 3.1 Resetting Password Login Page Step 2: After login, please click Reset password. Follow the guide as shown in Fig 3.2 to change your password; follow the instructions from step 1 to step 3. Fig 3.2 Resetting Password Page Step 3: Click SUBMIT for confirmation, a successful message will be prompted after your changes. 4
4. How to set up your Email Alias? The Email system allows student to create only ONE email alias for receiving email. Attention: Please note that no further changes will be accepted once you have registered your email alias. Step 3: When you start to register your email alias, Fig 4.3 will be shown. 201311999H Fig 4.3 Registering the Email Alias For example, if you want to register chantaiman@student.chuhai.edu.hk as your email alias, enter chantaiman to the Alias box, see Fig 4.4. Fig 4.4 Enter the Email Alias @student.chuhai.edu.hk Step 4: A successful message will be prompted after your registration, as shown in Fig 4.5. Fig 4.5 Email Alias Registration Successful Page It will take 5-7 working days for activating the email alias. Please do not use the email alias within this period. 6
5. Forgotten Password If you have forgotten your password, please click FORGOT PASSWORD in the login page or reset password page. Fig 5.1 Forgot Password Button at the Login Page Enter your Student ID and the email address you have registered in Part 1 to reset your password and click SUBMIT. Fig 5.2 Retrieve Password Page The new password will be sent to your registered email. We recommend that you change the password at once after receiving your new password. (Please refer to Part 3.) 7
6. Trusting the senders To prevent our official mail dropping into junks or spams when you forwarded the emails to the third-party email account. Please trust the email domains listed below in your third-party account. We have gathered some common email providers setting procedures in this manual. Our Email Domains are, @chuhai.edu.hk @chuhai.hk @student.chuhai.edu.hk 6.1. @ Outlook / Hotmail Step 1: Click the Gear button at the top right corner after you have logged in to the Outlook account and select More mail settings. Step 2: Select Safe and blocked senders under the Preventing junk mail. Step 3: Select Safe Senders and add the domains to the safe senders and domains list. 6.2. @ Yahoo! Mail Step 1: Click the Gear button at the top right corner after you have logged in to the Yahoo! Mail account and select Settings. Step 2: Select Filters and click the Add Button. 6.3. @ Gmail Step 1: Click the Gear button at the top right corner after you have logged in to the Gmail account and select Settings. Step 2: Select Filters and click the Create a new filter Button. Step 3: Please add the domains * to the From and select Never send it to Spam and Also Apply filter to X matching conversations ** in the selection box. * Please use this format for setting up the filter in Gmail @student.chuhai.hk @chuhai.edu.hk @chuhai.hk Fig 6.3. 7. Google Apps for Mobile Devices The @student.chuhai.edu.hk now supports students to use Google Mail Apps in Android / ios devices. The procedures in this section is referred from Google at the link, https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/2758865?hl=en 7.1. For Android Devices Step 1: Add your Google account. o Android 2.1-2.3 users add your account by going to Settings > Accounts and sync > Add account > Google. o Android 3.0+ users add your account by going to Settings > Add account > Google. 11
Step 2: Touch Next and sign in with your mobile browser. o o Android 2.1-2.3 users touch Menu > Browser sign-in, in the bottom right corner. Android 3.0+ users touch Existing account > Menu > Browser sign-in. Step 3: Sign in entering your Google Apps email address (STID@student.chuhai.edu.hk) and leave the password field blank. 12
Step 4: You'll be redirected to your SSO login page. Enter your SSO username and password here. Please refer to Section 2 that described how to login. Step 5: Touch Grant Access if you're asked to grant access for the device (so it can stay signed in to your account). Step 6: Your account will be added to the Android device. The next screen displays Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, and other Google services syncing with your device. You can choose which services to sync. 13
7.2. For ios Devices Step 1: Open the Google Mail in ios devices. Sign in entering your Google Apps email address (STID@student.chuhai.edu.hk) and leave the password field blank. Step 2: You'll be redirected to your SSO login page. Enter your SSO username and password here. Please refer to Section 2 that described how to login. Step 3: Your account will be added to the ios device. 14
8. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Question regarding the use of this service can be directed to the ITS Help Desk (helpdesk@chuhai.hk). Q: What is the storage size? A: 30 GB storage supporting up to 20 MB attachment per Email. Q: Does it support POP3/IMAP? A: No, we only support web interface. Q: What OS platform is supported? A: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Apple Mac OSX Snow leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, ios or Android. Q: What is the username format of the email account? A: The username or account name will be in the format "<STID>@student.chuhai.edu.hk" where <STID> is the Student ID of the user. For security reasons, you are recommended to supply a different password from the account you use in the Email service. Q: How can I start using the email account? A: Account will normally be ready after successful activation. You may go to the following site the account activation and subsequent logons. http://student.chuhai.hk/resetpass/activate. Q: Who hosted the email service? A: All data will be hosted by Google and under their terms of service. For details, please go to http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/terms/. 15
