Chapter 1 Instaing the Inteigent Power Manager This document provides Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) instaation prerequisites and quick start instaation procedures. The procedures incude ony those steps that are necessary for basic setup and operation. Refer to the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) User s Guide for detaied configuration and operation instructions. Procedures for uninstaing the product are aso incuded. NOTE Upgrade instructions are not incuded in this document. See the Nodes Upgrade section in the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) User s Guide for information about upgrading the IPM. Product Introduction The Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) is idea for monitoring and managing mutipe power and environmenta devices. The Eaton IPM deivers a goba view across the network from any PC with an Internet browser. Exceptionay versatie, the software is compatibe with any device that supports a network interface, incuding other manufacturer s UPSs, environmenta sensors, other manufacturer s Power Distribution Unit (PDU) or Eaton Encosure Power Distribution Unit (epdu ), and appications. The Eaton IPM can aso organize a management tabe by groups, centraize aarms, and maintain events ogs for preventive maintenance of the entire instaed equipment base. Instaing the Inteigent Power Manager Instaation Prerequisites This section provides instaation prerequisites for the foowing: Systems hosting the Eaton IPM Systems that dispay the Web-based graphica user interface (GUI) On the System Hosting Eaton IPM The Eaton IPM can be instaed on Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista 7, Microsoft Windows 7 and 8, and on Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008 (incuding R2 revision), and 2012. For better performances with mutipe nodes, Eaton recommends a Microsoft Windows Server OS (that does not have the imitation of 10 simutaneous network connections) To avoid network or seria port access conficts, do not insta the Eaton IPM on a machine that aso hosts: - Network management system, such as HP OpenView or CA Unicenter - Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) - Eaton Enterprise Power Manager - Eaton Network Shutdown Modue - Network Management Proxy - Eaton UPS Management Software NOTE This is the previous Eaton software for managing UPSs. If you were using it previousy, remove it before instaing the new Eaton IPM software. On the System that Dispays the Web-based GUI The Eaton IPM graphica interface can be accessed remotey using a simpe Web browser. Access to this interface can be secured through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection and is aso secured through ogin and password. The Eaton IPM graphica interface has been tested with: Googe Chrome Mozia Firefox Microsoft Internet Exporer (IE) version 7 and ater NOTE For optima performance, Googe Chrome or Firefox is recommended. For good performance, IE version 9 and ater is recommended. IE6 performance is not optima. JRE Prerequisites For a features correated to the infrastructure connector (ike VMware, UCS, NetApp) a JRE must be instaed on the system hosting Eaton IPM (see JRE Instaation on page 8). If this prerequisite is not instaed, ony virtuaization features are avaiabe, such as the egacy API for VMware connectors. See Eaton Soutions for Microsoft on page 85. JRE Instaation The instaation of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is Operating System patform-dependent. A new Eaton components have been deveoped and tested for the Java version 1.6 or ater. After instaing the correct JRE, the IPM must be reoaded, to take account this new environment. Quick Start Instructions This section incudes quick start instaation and configuration instructions. Step 1: Graphica Instaation To insta the Eaton IPM: 1. On a computer with a Windows OS, run the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager package under an administrator account. A Web browser dispays the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager Instaer Wecome screen. 2. Observe the prompt and verify that the communication device is connected. Cick Next (see Figure 2). The Login screen dispays. NOTE The defaut entry for ogin and password is admin. Figure 3. Login Screen Step 2: Configuration When started, the appication automaticay performs a discovery using the Quick Scan option: Using the Quick Scan operation, you wi discover the foowing through broadcast: Network Management Cards Network-MS (ex 66102 / 103006826) and Modbus-MS (ex 66103), PXGX2000, PXGX-UPS, ConnectUPS BD, ConnectUPS X, ConnectUPS MS, Inteigent Power Protector, Network Shutdown Modue V3, new Eaton epdu, new HP UPS Card, new De UPS Card, or new IBM UPS Card. Using Range Scan discovers the nodes that are outside of the network segment and nodes that are not compatibe with the Quick Scan feature. Refer to the Compatibiity ist to determine if your node supports the Quick Scan feature. (Optiona) To set the computer running Eaton IPM to shut down in the event of a power faiure: 1. Seect Settings > System. The Edit modues settings diaog dispays. 2. Seect the Shutdown checkbox on the Edit modues settings diaog (see Figure 5). The Shutdown menu seection dispays in the Settings menu hierarchy ist (see Figure 6). Figure 5. From the Settings > Shutdown page, assign the foowing: IP address of the UPS that powers the oca computer (power source) Shutdown configuration parameters (timer, duration, type of shutdown, and (if needed) shutdown script Seect or deseect (check or uncheck) the checkbox for standard shutdown sequence Step 3: Enter the License Code The Eaton IPM monitors up to 10 devices (incuding UPS Web Card, epdu, or Eaton IPP Shutdown Controer) without a icense key. If there are more devices to be monitored, an appropriate icense is needed. The icense can aso be upgraded ater without reinstaation. Ony for Siver or God paid versions: 1. In Settings > System > Edit System Information, enter the icense product key that is printed on the commercia CD booket (inside the CD case): ref 66925 Eaton IPM Siver License (11 to 100 device nodes) ref 66926 Eaton IPM God License (101 to unimited devices nodes) NOTE Nodes that are not managed due to icense imitation appear with this icon: Step 4: Operation 1. Use the Views > Node List menu item to supervise the current state of the compatibe power devices and appications. 2. Node List Main Page [Optiona] If you have enabed the Shutdown modue, the Views > Power Source menu item aows you to supervise the current state of the UPS that powers the server running Eaton IPM. This menu is avaiabe when you have enabed the Shutdown modue in System > Settings > Edit Modues Settings. The Events > Event List view aows you to view the device events. The Management menu provides functions that aow you to mass configure and mass upgrade cards. Instaation Resut! IMPORTANT If you insta a new Eaton IPM reease without uninstaing the od one, you wi keep your database and your product settings. At the end of the instaation, the foowing shortcuts are created in the group Start > Programs > Eaton > Inteigent Power Manager: - Open Eaton Inteigent Power Manager: Starts the main Eaton IPM graphica interface - Start Eaton Inteigent Power Manager: Starts the service - Stop Eaton Inteigent Power Manager: Stops the service - Uninsta Eaton Inteigent Power Manager: Uninstas the program A service caed Eaton Inteigent Power Manager is aso created for the Database Acquisition Engine. - This program continuousy pos the status of Eaton devices and Appications connected on the network. - This service automaticay starts on machine boot-up. - This service provides the Web Interface. A system tray icon dispays the aarms on the oca computer. Right-cick this icon to dispay the same shortcuts as in the Windows Start menu. Instaing the Inteigent Power Manager Uninstaing the Eaton IPM The foowing methods for uninstaing the Eaton IPM are avaiabe: Access the contro pane seection for your operating system to uninsta programs and remove the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager Vx.xx package per your system instructions. You can aso uninsta from the shortcuts to remove the product and custom fies (if you confirm the action): Start > Programs > Eaton > Inteigent Power Manager> Uninsta Inteigent Power Manager Upgrading the Eaton IPM Product If you insta a new Eaton IPM Reease without uninstaing the od reease, you wi keep your database and your product settings. See Nodes Upgrade on page 74 for upgrade information. Aso see System Settings on page 29 for information on configuring automatic upgrade. Instaing/Uninstaing the Eaton IPM (Command Line) You can insta or uninsta the Eaton IPM product from a command ine in order to depoy the software in a group, with or without using the graphica interface. You can aso configure protection settings from the command ine. Detai of avaiabe command options can be obtained using the foowing command: <packagename> -hep <packagename> [COMMAND] [OPTION]... The avaiabe commands are: -insta Launches the instaation/upgrade process (defaut). -uninsta Launches the process to uninsta the appication. The avaiabe options are: -debug Dispays debugging information on the consoe. -sient Insta the appication sienty. Access the instaation foder: -dir <instapath> Exampe The command <packagename> -insta -sient -dir "C:\Program Fies\MyFoder" wi insta the Eaton IPM sienty in C:\Program Fies\MyFoder. After the instaation is competed, open a Web browser with the foowing URL: http://<host>:4679/, where <host> is the host name or IP address of the machine hosting the Eaton IPM. JRE Instaation The instaation of the Java Runtime Environment is Operating System patform dependent. A new Eaton components have been deveoped tested for the Java version 1.6 or ater. After instaing the correct JRE, the Eaton IPM must be reoaded to take account this new environment (see JRE Prerequisites on page 2). This number must appear on the outside of the package and on the Bi Of Lading (if appicabe). Use the origina packaging or request packaging from the Hep Desk or distributor. Units damaged in shipment as a resut of improper packaging are not covered under warranty. A repacement or repair unit wi be shipped, freight prepaid for a warrantied units.
