Installing Microsoft Outlook 2001 onto your Macintosh To use Outlook 2001, your Macintosh must be running System 9.X. To check which version of the operating system you are running:- Click once on your desktop From the Apple menu select about this computer. A window will now open showing your system information. If your machine has not got System 9, contact your line manager. Installing and Configuring Outlook 2001 The installation and configuring is in two very easy parts: - Part One Downloading the software to your Macintosh. Part Two - Configuring the software with your account details. Part One Under the Apple Menu, open Chooser
Click Appleshare Select the Art & Design Server from the top of the list on the right. Click OK The Password dialog window will then open Enter office as the name (ignore the quotes) Enter 2001 as the password (ignore the quotes) Click Connect A connection will then be made to the server and a window displaying the list of available volumes will open. Scroll down and select the spare_3 volume Click OK Close the Chooser
The spare_3 volume will now be mounted on your desktop. Double-click the icon to open the volume Open the Software folder Double-click this folder Open the Microsoft Outlook folder Drag the Microsoft Outlook folder down to the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder on your hard drive. Note: if you have an old system 9, it will be called simply Applications.
When the folder has been copied to your Macintosh, drag the spare_3 icon to the trash to disconnect from the server. You have now completed Part One of the process. Part Two Part two consists of configuring Outlook with your NT account details. Note: If during the installation process you get prompts asking if you want Outlook to be your default email and news client, click Yes. Open the Microsoft Outlook folder on your hard drive. Double click the yellow Microsoft Outlook icon. Double-click the Outlook icon Accept the license agreement The installation process will now start. This may take a minute or so as all the help files are installed. When this has finished a Personalise window will open.
Fill in the fields as appropriate. Click OK A new profile window will then open. NT username Type a name for your profile, usually your name. Type crwnmail1.staff.staffs.ac.uk in the exchange server field. (Do not include the quotes) Type your NT username into the Mailbox name field. Make sure the Yes button is selected for the question Is this computer always connected to the network? Click Test settings Accept Microsoft s congratulations by clicking Create Profile. A login window will then open
NT username NT password Type your NT username and password into their respective fields. Type staff into the Domain field. (Do not include the quotes) Click Log in Microsoft Outlook will then open as below: - If you get any problems with creating your profile or you can t logon, check that your NT account works by logging onto the staff domain with a PC. If you can logon with a PC, but still cannot set up Outlook, contact 3800. Creating an alias Once you have successfully setup Outlook you may wish, for convenience, to make an alias of the application on your desktop. To make an alias: - Click once on the application icon, which will go black. From the File menu, select Make Alias
An alias icon (in italics) will appear next to the original icon. This is the alias Click once on the alias icon, and drag it to your desktop. Now, when you want to start Outlook, simply double-click the alias. Accessing Outlook through a web browser You can read your mail via anyweb browser anwhere The web address is: http://weboutlook.staffs.ac.uk/exchange At the login prompt: Type your username, prefixed by staff\ e.g. staff\heb1 Enter your password Click OK.
