PennDOT s Internet Traffic Monitoring System (itms) Users Manual Version 003.001 The online itms for PennDOT s Internet site provides users with general traffic information data as well as a direct link to PennDOT s VideoLog site. Selecting the I Accept button will take you into the itms site. If you select Cancel, you will be redirected to PennDOT s main page.

Help Tools When first coming into the site you will see four icons at the top right-hand of the page, which are accessible on every page in the site. These icons are to help the users with general information. The help icon is a link to the itms user guide that you are currently viewing. The mail icon is a link to information for contacting the itms administration with questions. The information icon is a link to the About page which provides some knowledge about itms, such as the newest version and the purpose of the site. The home icon provides a quick link to the itms site disclaimer page (refer to screen at the top of this document).

Getting Started Under the Select Area of Interest drop down list you will select the type of search you would like to use. You have the option of searching by County, Municipality, Zip Code, PennDOT Route, PennDOT Route Segment, Place Name, Street Name, Road Intersection, Street Address, or Traffic Count Site Number. When you have filled in all of the required fields, click the Generate Map button just below the drop down list. The map may take a couple of seconds to build. You will see a waiting screen with the image below while the map is generating.

The example below is PennDOT Route =>Cumberland County => Route 15: Hovering the pointer over a segment of roadway in the map window provides tool tips to the user. The example displayed is Route 15 / AADT 23058 / Direction - North. Hovering the pointer over a traffic site point on a particular roadway in the map provides tool tips to the user. The example displayed is Route 15 / Segment - 80 / Site 1601.

Using the Map Tools Change Area of Interest Allows the user to change the search type. Cancel Map Tool Action Allows the user to cancel an action, for example, if you select the zoom in tool and did not mean to select it, you can use this icon to cancel the action. Zoom In to Rectangle Allows the user to zoom into an area by selecting two points. Zoom In to a Point Allows the user to select one point to zoom IN to. Zoom Out to a Point Allows the user to select one point to zoom OUT from. Zoom to Previous Map Extent Allows the user to see the previously zoomed view. Zoom to Next Map Extent Allows the user to see the map that was viewed prior to selecting the previous map extent icon. Zoom to Original Map Allows the user to return to the original map that was created from their search. Re-Center Map to Point Allows the user to select a point and have it as the center of the map. Display Lat/Long Location on Map Allows the user to select a point and hover over the point to show the latitude and longitude of the selection. Cumulative Distance Measuring Tool Allows the user to find out the distance from one point to another. To start, select one point and drag the mouse to the next point. Continue selecting points. When you are at the end of the measurement, double-click the mouse to show the cumulative distance. Print Allows the user to print the current map. Refresh Current Map Allows the user to refresh the data on the map if it is available.

Understanding the Map Legend Traffic Volume Once the map is displayed, note the road colors corresponding to the legend colors. Only state owned roads will have a color associated with them. You are able to toggle these layers on and or off these layers of road by clicking in the box. If the layer is turned off the road will show up on the map as slightly darker gray than the gray you see for local roads. The only exception is for interstate roads which are a purple color. Map Layers Map layers consist of all the features displayed in the map window. You have the option to toggle on and or off any of the layers in the legend. The symbol next to the check box indicates the type of feature (Point, Line, Polygon and Text) it is on the map. Point Line Polygon Text

Displaying itms Reports General traffic reports are available for all colored roadways by clicking on a segment which becomes highlighted. Roads in light gray will not have reporting capabilities. Reports have information such as County, Route, Segment, Direction, and others. Along with the information about the selected roadway you have access to PennDOT s VideoLog program. Also in the upper left hand corner of the report you have the option of printing the report.

Using VideoLog The solid magenta circles designates our TMS site rrumbers. Clicking on a site rrumber will lake you into one of the reports that were just discussed. On the bottom left hand comer there is an iconij\iiiil. By clicking thisicon you will be taken to our VideoLog site for that TMS sitenwnber. 1, t,.j: :: =.cṟ...,_ :I ::. J: IU ::;a :-..
