1 Doña Ana County, NM Interactive Zoning Map Users Guide Basic Map Navigation Zoom Control The most efficient way of zooming, or changing the scale of the map is with the use of a mouse with a scroll wheel. To zoom in on the map, position the pointer over the area you wish to zoom to then roll the mouse wheel forward. To zoom out, roll the mouse wheel backward. If you do not have a mouse with a scroll wheel you can zoom in by double clicking on the map. Each double click will zoom in on the map one level of detail closer. You can also use the Zoom Slider, located on the left side of the map, to zoom in or out on the map. Pan Control To pan the map, click and hold down the left mouse button. While holding the left mouse button down, move the mouse cursor in the direction you want to move the map. Release the mouse button and repeat the process if necessary. Selecting a Parcel To select a parcel, click and release the mouse button. The parcel beneath the mouse cursor will be selected. When a parcel is selected in the map it will be highlighted and the attributes for that parcel will be displayed in the Parcel Details Area. Map Features The following diagram describes the features in the Interactive Zoning Map.

3 Search Parcels Button To begin a search for a specific parcel, click the Search Parcels Button. Clicking this button will open a window allowing you to enter the criteria for your search (see Figure 1). Figure 1 In the Search Criteria window begin by selecting the type of search you want to perform from the Search Type box. The options are: Parcel ID, Map Code, Owner Name and Property Address (see Figure2). Figure 2 After selecting the search type, enter the value you want to search for in the text box provided. When you are ready to perform the search, click the Search button. Notes about search types and search values For Parcel ID and Map Code searches, simply enter the parcel s ID number or map code in the value box. Parcel ID numbers are in the format ##-##### (example: ). Map code numbers are in the format #-###-###-###=### (example: ). When performing Owner Name searches there is no special format that the owner name needs to be in. The owner name is not case sensitive and may be entered first name first or first name last. For example: Jane Doe, JANE DOE, jane doe, Doe Jane, DOE JANE and doe jane will all return the same results. When performing a Property Address search it is usually best to enter the value without including the street suffix and street prefix. For example: if you are looking for 845 N Motel Blvd, enter the value 845

4 Motel. Any matching results will be displayed in the Search Results Area. It is also possible to just enter a street name and get the results for all addresses on that street. For example: if you enter Motel in the value box the search will return all records that contain the value Motel in the property address. Measure Distance Button The Measure Distance Button will allow you to measure a linear distance on the map. After clicking the button click the map at the location you want to start measuring from. Move the pointer to the location you want to end at and double click. The resulting distance will be displayed in a window. It is also possible to measure a path using the Measure Distance tool. To measure a path, begin by clicking the Measure Distance Button. Click the map at the location you want to start measuring from. Move the pointer to a location along the path and click that location. A node will be added to the measure line at that location. To continue measuring the path, move the pointer to the next location along the path and click that location. Another node will be added to the measure line at that location (see Figure 3). Continue to the end of the path and double click the final location to display the total length of the path. Figure 3 Measure Area Button The Measure Area Button will allow you to measure area of a polygon on the map. After clicking the button click the map at the location you want to start measuring. Move the pointer to a corner of the area you want to measure and click the map at that location. A node will be added at that location. Continue measuring the area by moving the pointer to the next corner of the area you want to measure and clicking the map at that location (see Figure 4). Repeat the process as many times as necessary to make a complete polygon around the area you want to measure the area of. When you have completely enclosed the area, double click the final point to complete the polygon and display the resulting area.

5 Figure 4 Clear Results Button The Clear Results Button will clear all previous search results, parcel details and graphics and return the map to the original extent. Layers Control The Layers Control area allows users to turn on or off the display of layers in the map. When the box next to the layer name is checked the layer will be visible on the map (note that some layers are only visible when the map is zoomed in to a certain level). When the box next to the layer name is unchecked the layer will not be visible on the map. Zoom Slider The zoom slider can be used to adjust the zoom level of the map. Move the slider up to zoom in or move the slider down to zoom out. Parcel Details Area When a parcel is selected the Parcel Details Area will display attributes from the County Assessor s parcel information. The following list explains which details are displayed. Parcel ID the unique ID number assigned to the parcel (Clicking on the displayed parcel id number will open a new tab or window in your browser to display a picture of the primary structure located on the property if one is available.) Map Code the unique Map Code number assigned to the parcel (Clicking on the displayed map code number will open a new tab or window in your browser and display the Assessor s Parcel Search Results, which will give more detailed information about the parcel record.) Name the name of the property owner Name2 additional owner name information Mail Address the recorded mailing address of the property owner City the mailing address city of the property owner State the mailing address state of the property owner Zip the mailing zip code of the property owner Lot the subdivision lot number or letter of the property

6 Block the subdivision block number or letter of the property Subdivision the name of the subdivision the property is located in Condo Name the name of the condominium Condo Unit the unit number or letter of the condominium Mobile Homes the number of mobile homes located on the property Clerk Record the County Clerk s recording information for the most recent documents filed regarding the property RTS the range, township and section of the Public Lands Surveying System the property is located in Property Address the physical or location address of the property Acres the recorded acres contained within the parcel Assessed Land Value the County Assessor s assessed land value used for calculating taxes Assessed Bldg Value the County Assessor s assessed building value used for calculating taxes Total Assessed Value the County Assessor s total assessed value used for calculating taxes Scale Bar The scale bar can be used to visually determine the size of objects on the map. Search Results Area The Search Results Area will display a table with the results of searches that are preformed using the Search Parcels feature. When a search is executed the results from all parcels that match the entered search criteria will be added to the table (see Figure 5). Figure 5 The search results table will show a row of attributes for each parcel returned from the search feature and allows the user to interact with the results in several ways. Starting at the left most column of each record, there will be a cell that contains a picture of a magnifying glass. Clicking the magnifying glass of a row will highlight the parcel on the map, zoom to the location of the parcel and populate the Parcel Details Area with attributes for the parcel. The second column of each row contains the Parcel ID number of the associated parcel. Clicking on the parcel id number in a row will open a new window in your browser and display a picture of the primary structure located on the parcel (note that not all properties will have a picture associated with them). The third column of each row contains the Map Code number of the associated parcel. Clicking the map code number is a row will open a new tab or window in your browser to display the Assessor s Parcel Search Results page, which will provide more detailed information about the parcel record.

7 Map Overview Inset The Map Overview Inset provides a zoomed out overview of the area currently displayed on the map. The shaded area in the map overview inset represents the extent of the map being displayed. Zoning Information Popup Figure 6 When the user clicks at a location on the map the parcel below the pointer will be selected. The parcel will be highlighted, the parcel details area will be populated with attributes for the parcel and the zoning information popup will be displayed (see Figure 6). The Zoning Information Popup will display the zoning classification assigned to the parcel as well as a link to open the zoning regulations associated with the zoning classification. In addition the Zoom To link will zoom to the extent of the zoning classification the parcel falls within.
