To use this tool press and hold the left mouse button then pull the map to the location that you want to navigate to. Also, if this tool is selected then a user may zoom in and out using the scroll wheel on the mouse. ZOOM IN The zoom in tool allows you to zoom in to an area that you would like to view. To use this tool press and hold the left mouse button then drag a box around the area that you would like to navigate to.

ZOOM OUT TOOL The zoom out tool allows you to zoom out from the current area. To use this tool press and hold the left mouse button then drag a box out. To zoom out a small amount drag a large box, to zoom out far drag a small box. FULL EXTENT TOOL Press this button to zoom out to the entire extent of the map. PREVIOUS AND NEXT EXTENT TOOL If you would like to review the last location you were at you can press the left arrow to see the previous extent. You can click on previous extent several times. Once you are done reviewing the location that you were at you may press the right arrow to go to the next extent. The Next Extent tool only works if you have just pressed the previous extent tool. PAN CONTROL You can pan by pressing the pan control button in the direction you would like to navigate to, much like you would use the arrow keys on a keyboard to navigate a page. ZOOM SLIDER CONTROL You can zoom in or out using the zoom slider. Sliding up or pressing the + button zooms in. Sliding down or pressing the button zooms out. REFERENCE MAP CONTROL The reference map in the lower right hand corner of the screen displays the area that you are viewing in a red dashed box. It also displays the area around your view extent. You can use the reference map as a pan control by dragging the red box around inside the reference map. You may also turn the reference map off by clicking the red circle with the minus sign next the reference map. If you need to view the reference map again press the green circle with a plus sign. SCALE TOOL On the lower part of the screen there is a scale box. You may use the dropdown box to select several predefined scales; or you may enter in your own scale. JUMP TO: TOOL The Jump To tool is located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. By clicking on the dropdown menu, a user may zoom to any township or city.

IDENTIFY TOOL The identify tool will allow you to find out more information about a geographical feature. Click anywhere on the map and the identify tool will display the location, the section you selected, and information about the parcel you identified. When you have identified a parcel, there will see several features: MAP REPORT The map report will generate a pdf map report for the parcel. You can read more about this feature in map report. WALK REPORT The walk report will create a report that identifies how far a particular address is from various types of businesses and locations. For example, the report will identify how far the nearest park or school is from the location you entered. TAX AND VALUE INFORMATION After identifying a parcel, two additional links will be displayed that will allow a user to view the tax information web page. IDENTIFY POPUP TOOL The identify popup displays the same information as the Identify Tool. The only difference is that the Identify Popup displays the results in a popup window on top of the map instead of in the sidebar. SEARCH TOOL Currently, there are four predefined searches in Geomoose. By default, Search Parcels is selected. You may activate the search functionality by pressing the Search Parcels button. To view other searches, you can click on the green down button next to Search Parcels and then click on the search that you would like to use. On any search, you can change the field that you are searching by modifying the value in Search By and selecting the field that you want to search. Every search is built as an inclusive search. For example, you can find Rick Anderson by searching for Anders, Anderson, or Anderson, Rick. When you have decided what you want to search, press the Go! button and all of the potential matches will be highlighted on the map. You can then click on the search result to zoom to the location of that item. SEARCH PARCELS Search Parcels will allow you to search for a parcel by the owner in Last name, First name format, a PIN in xx-xxxxxx-x format, or by address in House Number Street name format. Once you have initiated a search you will have the option of creating a map report by pressing the Examples of parcel searches: Anderson Anderson, R Anderson, Rick icon. You can read more about parcel reports in the Map Report s section

W MAIN SEARCH DITCHES You can search for a ditch by the Ditch name; for example, CD 10. SEARCH SECTIONS You can search for a section by the section-township-range number; for example, ADVANCED SEARCH Note: This feature is still in production. This feature allows you to search for parcels based on multiple attributes. One example of use might be if you wanted to find all the homes in Ghent that are worth more than $200,000; you could enter search by parcel ID that begins with 25- AND value being Greater Than CLEAR SELECTION This tool will remove any of the highlighted markups that were created while using the selection or search tools. Note: this does not clear any shapes that were drawn using the drawing tools. MEASUREMENT TOOLS MEASURE LENGTH Use this tool to measure the length of a line. Begin measuring by clicking the left mouse button. If you are measuring a feature with a turn on it, click at each corner. Double click the left mouse button to finish measuring. You may also change the units of measurement if desired. MEASURE AREA The measure area tool displays the area of a feature that you measure. Begin measuring by clicking the left mouse button. Click at each corner. Double click the left mouse button to finish measuring. You may also change the units of measurement if desired.

BIRDS-EYE AND STREETVIEW TOOLS BIRDS-EYE (PICTOMETRY) TOOL Click on any location in the map to pull up Pictometry air photos. Geomoose will open up a new page at bing.com and display the air photos at this location. Within Bing, you will be able to have limited zoom tools and have the ability to view air photos from different directions. Please note: 1) you may only look at oblique air photos, which display photos from an angle; 2) These air photos are housed with Microsoft, not Pictometry, therefore parcel s will not show up on the air photos. STREETVIEW TOOL The streetview tool will open up Google Maps Streetview application. To open up streetview, click on the road that you would like to view from. Once in streetview mode, you may pan around, zoom in, or drive down the road. You can zoom out to view the standard Google Maps. Please keep in mind that the streetview is limited within Lyon County. Most of our coverage is on highways and major county roads. If you would like to view what is available, go to the Google Maps and pull the streetview icon (looks like a stick figure) located above the zoom control over onto the map. Any road that has streetview capabilities will by highlighted in blue. MAP REPORT The map report will create a pdf report for a parcel report. The report will include an image of the parcel, the parcel number, owner name, address, value information, and other information that might be pertinent to the parcel. You can create a map report by either selecting the parcel using the identify tool or by searching for a parcel. PRINT TOOL The print Tool will allow you to create a map that displays your current location. Below are several options that you will allow you to customize the map in a format that you would like to see. Once the map is created then you can save the map as an image, a web page, or a pdf document. Generally users will create a pdf document that they can save, or later print out on paper. MAP TITLE The name of your map. OUTPUT TEMPLATE You can select different map sizes or layouts. Letter creates maps that will fit on an 8.5 by 11 paper. Poster will create maps that will fit on an 11 by 17 piece of paper. IMAGE QUALITY You may select different image qualities using this tool. If you intend to save your map, standard will take up the least disk space; while highest will use up the most disk space. Higher quality maps will create maps that are less pixilated.

PRESERVE SCALE If the preserve scale option is set to yes, then the map will print using the same scale as the Geomoose application. For example, a map that is 1:24000 on Geomoose should print off at 1:24000 on the map. If preserve scale is set to no, then Geomoose will try to match the view extent to the size of your printed map. USING THE CATALOG The catalog is displayed on the right hand side of the screen. It will allow you to control which layers are displayed on the map. If you cannot see the catalog, then click on the catalog tab which is located directly under the Jump To dialog. CATALOG FOLDERS Each layer is organized in a folder. You may view or hide the contents of a folder by clicking on the folder icon. TURNING LAYERS ON OR OFF If you would like to turn a layer on you can click on the checkbox next to the layer name. Not all layers are on by default. If you would like to hide a layer from the map, click the checkbox next to the layer name to remove the check. Certain folders may allow you to view only one layer at a time within the folder. For example, you may view only one air photo at a time. VIEWING A LEGEND FOR A LAYER Click the view legend button a legend for that layer will be displayed under the layer name. Click the button again to close the legend USING THE LAYER POPUP TOOL Clicking on the Layer Popup Tool then subsequently pressing a feature on the map will display information about a layer on the map as a popup. Unlike the regular Identify or Popup Identify tool, this popup will only display information about the single layer that you selected and it will not display as much information. CHANGING THE OPACITY OF A LAYER To fade a layer, click the fade button. This will fade the layer in 10% increments. If you completely fade out a layer you will not see it on the map, even if it is on. To unfade the layer so you can see it, click the unfade button. HOW TO USE GEOMOOSE ADVANCED FUNCTIONALITY GEOCODE ADDRESS TOOL Geomoose 2 will allow basic geocoding. To begin geocoding, click the Geocode Tool. Next, enter in the address you would like to find. After you press Go!, Geomoose should zoom to the address that you entered. This service uses the address locater in Google. Therefore, there are a couple items to keep in mind: 1) You should include the city and state or zip code when you geocode; 2) The location might not zoom to the exact address. Google generally calculates where an address is located based upon the address entered in relation to the block range for example, 1053 will be located 53% down the block between 1000 and 1100; 3) New streets and addresses might not be in the Google geocoder.

SELECT TOOL If you would like to find out information about more than one feature at a time, you may use the select tool. The select tool will allow you to select many features by drawing a line, a polygon, or a box. Furthermore, you find out what features are within a certain distance of your drawing by entering in a value in buffer selection. Basic information about all the selected features will be displayed. Also, there is a plan to allow users to create mailing labels for an internal site (if there is any interest.) SELECT FROM FEATURES TOOL (DISABLED) At this time, the Select from Features Tool is disabled. However, this tool could be useful if you wanted to find out information; such as, what parcels are within 500 feet of a flood zone. If you would like to see this functionality, please contact the Webmaster. SKETCH TOOLS The sketch tools allow you to markup your map. Sketches may be viewed on your map and printed off, if you select print However, upon closing Geomoose, any sketches made will be lost. Click the green dropdown button to view the sketch tools. DRAW POLYGON This tool will allow you to draw a polygon. Left click on the location of where you want to start your polygon. Click at each corner. Double click to finish your polygon. DRAW LINE This tool will allow you to draw a line. Left click on the location of where you want to start your line. If there is a turn in your line, then click at each corner. Double click to finish your line. DRAW POINT Click anywhere on the map to create a point. REMOVE DRAWING Once this tool is selected, you can click on any of your sketches to remove them. EDIT DRAWING If you made a mistake in one of your sketches, you can modify it with this tool. Once this tool is selected, you can click on the sketch you want to change. The sketch will highlight each vertex and you can drag that vertex into a new location. If you would like to add another vertex, you can click on the faint circle that is located between any two existing corners. Once you have completed editing a sketch, you may click off that sketch to stop editing.

EDIT ATTRIBUTES With this tool, you can change the appearance of a sketch. You can change the colors, add a name, or change the opacity of a sketch. If you would like to change the attributes of a sketch, then click on the sketch. A dialog box will open. If you want to save any changes, click on Update Attributes TO ADD A TITLE Enter a title in the dialog box. TO CHANGE THE COLOR OF THE OUTSIDE LINE, OR THE FILL Enter in a color name. TO CHANGE THE OPACITY OF A THE SKETCH Enter a number between 0 (invisible) and 1 (opaque). CLEAR DRAWINGS This tool will remove all of the sketches that you created on the map. Once clicked you cannot undo this operation. EDIT TOOLS Edit tools work similar to sketch tools, except that any edits that you make will be saved permanently on the GIS department Geodatabase. If you notice an error in the parcel dataset you can notify the GIS department by selecting: Add Parcel Comment. Once you have selected the tool, left click on the area that you want to draw a polygon. Single click at each corner. Once you have completed your polygon double click to finish the drawing; then press Next. A dialog box will be displayed on the right side of the website. Enter in the problem, the parcel owner(s), associated documents (if any), and your information [if you would like the GIS department to notify you that your comment has been reviewed]. Then press Go! For Example: Problem: This should be pin Owner: City of Marshall Document: None Contact Phone: Contact Name: Mark Anthony ADDITIONAL HELP AND INFORMATION Please contact Lyon County GIS if you have any questions reguarding how this software works, if you would like to see any additional map layers, or if you have any other comments concerning this application.
