Humanity In Action Denmark Reconciliation after Genocide: Rwanda Study Tour 2016 Two decades ago, Rwanda endured a genocide claiming the lives of 800,000 people followed by local conflict and more violence. Today Rwanda is internationally recognized for its extraordinary reconciliation process. But how does a society regain stability & restart development on the back of neighbors killing each other? This study tour looks into the history of the genocide, the reconciliation and the present course of Rwandan development. Accommodation will be clean and humble about three stars. Tour leader: Anders Jerichow, Senior Correspondent and Chairman of Humanity In Action, Denmark. The price from Copenhagen includes return flight Copenhagen-Kigali, local transportation, hotel in shared double rooms, breakfast, lunch with soft drinks, all tickets and meetings 10 days, 16,500 kroner (2600 US dollars) The study tour program includes visits to sites of the genocide, a seminar at the national genocide memorial in Kigali, meetings with Rwandan writers, international diplomats, civil society activists, an excursion to the border of DR Congo with a meeting on the unresolved refugee question, a visit to a batwa pygmies minority community and a continuous debate on the fate of Rwanda and its reconciliation and more. A special session, headed by the Polish writer Konstanty Gebert, will reflect on the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide. Language of the study tour: English HIA arranges flight transportation from Copenhagen. Participants from other HIA centers and countries arrange their own flights to Kigali. All participants must have arrived in Kigali by the evening of Thursday 28 th January 2016. The first meeting will be on Friday 29 th January at 09.30 and the program ends at noon Sunday 7 th February. Local transportation will be in small buses. The price for participants arriving individually from other countries includes local transportation, hotel in shared double rooms, breakfast and lunch with soft drinks, all tickets, and meetings 10 days 1.500 Euro or 1600 US dollars. These participants arrange their own flights to Kigali. Individual double room extra charge -300 US dollars Evening meals not included but not expensive. Additional Wildlife option: Two decades after the genocide, wildlife and tourism are central to Rwanda s future sources of income. During the genocide and the war, lots of wildlife was extinguished, just as fields and villages were destroyed. As Rwanda fights to develop its nature reserves and to attract international tourists, Humanity In Action offers you a chance to visit an extraordinary nature reserve The Akaghera. The wildlife option will take place as a direct extension of the study tour. Lunch: At lakeside veranda Afternoon: Departure bus transfer to Kigali with drop-off to the Airport. This additional option of an African wildlife experience is not part of the study tour but we will not bring you to Rwanda without offering a visit to the most extraordinary Nature Reserve. You will stay in luxury tents on the shore of Lake Ihema. This program includes a full day visit to the savanna, a boat trip on the lake, all meals in exotic nature as well as all transportation. Price which includes transport, two nights luxury tent accommodation, all meals (excluding drinks) and entry to the nature reserve is 3000 kroner or 400 Euros.
