STUDY IN AUCKLAND Located in the North Island, Auckland is a vibrant metropolitan city surrounded by beautiful beaches and the islanddotted Hauraki Gulf. It s the country s main transport hub and the largest, most culturally diverse of all New Zealand cities. This diversity brings with it an abundance of unique cultural experiences and entertainment, and a passion for the arts, food and fashion. New Zealand is a fantastic place to live, it offers a great quality of life, is safe and boasts stunning landscapes. Geographically it is a land of extremes with long golden sand beaches and dramatic mountains surrounded by ancient forests. One of the great advantages of New Zealand is that all of our diverse physical, cultural, and artistic landscapes are so close to each other. Situated in the south-western Pacific ocean, the country has a mild climate, lots of sunshine and plenty of space for its population of around 4.4 million people. New Zealand has been an innovator in the development of energy and environmental technologies necessary to create a sustainable low carbon global economy. It is an economically stable country and its education quality ranks highly by world standards. 1 Disclaimer Although every reasonable effort is made to ensure accuracy, the information in this document is provided as a general guide only for students and is subject to alteration. NATALIA KOLYADINA Associate External Auditor, PwC Professional Masters graduate Landing a top graduate role auditing the accounts of some of the country s leading companies is exactly the career fast track Natalia Kolyadina was looking for when she moved from Russia to New Zealand to study professional accounting at AUT. Natalia, who works as an external auditing associate with multinational professional services firm PwC, says her AUT qualification opened the doors to an excellent job and the promise of an exciting future career both in New Zealand and overseas. Skills for employment My AUT education ensured I was well-versed and fully competent to enter straight into a high-performing company, assessing the accounting performed by seasoned accountants in some of the top companies in New Zealand, she says. My qualification from AUT was instantly recognised by my employers and the knowledge I d accumulated was relevant and in-depth enough that I felt confident I could discuss theoretical accounting practices with my colleagues. In her job Natalia analyses and runs detailed tests on the financial statements of companies, assessing whether any of the figures presented may be materially misstated. Team focus Natalia enjoyed the collaborative working environment fostered at AUT and says the experience has been invaluable in her professional life, especially on large engagements with clients and team members. My role allows me to work in highly supportive and collaborative teams led by some of the best in the field of assurance. I m also exposed to many different businesses. Choosing AUT Natalia, who applied to AUT as an international student, had completed a bachelor s degree in linguistics in Russia. She had always planned to move to an English-speaking country to pursue postgraduate studies, and AUT s Master of Professional Accounting caught her attention. Accounting had always interested me and even in Russia, AUT was a wellrecognised university, hence it was an easy decision to apply. Fortunately I was offered a place in the course and I never looked back. Natalia is working towards admittance to the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand* and enjoying the chance to work with a range of clients and projects. Hopefully in the near future I can go on a secondment with PwC and get a taste of working life in another culture. I am really excited about my future. * Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is a trading name for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ABN 50 084 642 571) and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants see charteredaccountantsanz.com for further information.
