2 Why Environmental Policy and Governance? By combining the study of different fields with an interdisciplinary perspective, this Masters programme offers a greater understanding of local, national and international environmental policies and governance. On completion of this programme you will be ready and able to contribute policy solutions for many of today s environmental problems and the specialist knowledge you acquire in International Environmental Policy and Governance issues will be invaluable in building a long-term career in the environmental sector. The programme focuses on identifying strategic insights for a new generation of professionals capable of providing effective environmental governance solutions. A multitude of policy responses and different models of governance have recently emerged to address environmental challenges world-wide. LLM/MSc in Environmental Policy and Governance aims to reorient environmental governance research and practice. Graduates of the LLM/MSc in Environmental Policy and Governance will be well placed to pursue careers in the environmental sector, including government, regulatory authorities, international bodies, non-governmental organisations, business, pressure groups and charities.

4 Programme overview Description The course is interdisciplinary and consists of seven taught modules which are delivered by staff in the Schools of Arts and Humanities, Management and Natural Sciences. A combination of specialist modules is taken in both Semesters and students will also complete a 10,000-word dissertation over the period from the beginning of June to the middle of August. Modules The structure of the programme is as follows: Environmental Economics; Environmental Policy and Management; Environmental Principles and Methods; Economics of Climate Change; Environmental Principles: Law and Policy; Environmental Principles: Governance and Research Methods. The various modules are taught from an innovative and interdisciplinary approach which allows students to select a topic of their interest for the final dissertation to be submitted at the end of the programme. Staff The academic staff at the University of Stirling is composed of international scholars coming from different disciplines. The core courses are taught by specialists in the various fields. During the programme students will have access to tutorship and consultation with the teaching staff during office hours. Faculty members will provide students with follow-up and regular feedback regarding students work and academic performance. Timetable The programme can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. Delivery and assessment All modules are delivered via small group learning and teaching which aims to provide an opportunity for interaction with staff and to develop communication skills through discussion and presentation of key issues. Students are encouraged and expected to undertake independent study and to read widely from a variety of sources. The necessity of independent study culminates in the dissertation written in the summer months. This piece of work provides students with the opportunity to produce independent research in their chosen area. Modules are assessed typically by a combination of coursework and examination with the weighting varying dependent on the nature of the material taught. An integrated assessment strategy is adopted. Students must pass all seven modules and achieve a pass grade in the dissertation to be awarded the Master of Law (LLM) or MSc.

6 Entrance Requirements Normally a minimum of a second class honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent in a relevant subject. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply. English language requirements: If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency with a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in all bands). Fees and Funding The tuition fees of the programme are 6,000 (Home/EU students) and 13,500 (Overseas students) according to the Tuition Fees Schedule for 2015/16.
