4 Human Resource Management MSc n Full-time (1 year), part-time afternoon and evening or evening only (2 years) n Gives you the knowledge requirements at Level 7 from which, with appropriate experience, you will be able to apply for Chartered Membership of CIPD. n LJMU is a CIPD approved centre This well respected Masters programme focuses on the academic requirements of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Advanced Level Standards and builds on the experience and knowledge that many part-time course members bring with them. We are experienced in developing the knowledge of part-time course members who also have a full-time work role and other commitments. You will develop the ability to apply what you learn to different organisational contexts, and to critically evaluate alternative approaches which will add value to a range of business sectors. The programme includes eight modules covering areas central to the role of HR professionals: Resourcing and Talent Management, Managing Performance, Managing Employment Relations, HRM in Context, Managing Development, Leadership Management and Development Strategy, Research Methods for HR professionals, Business Leadership Skills and Strategies. These are followed by workshops to support work on your organisation based dissertation. Completion of the programme gives the knowledge requirements to apply for Chartered Membership of CIPD. Those who are already Chartered Members of CIPD can progress their professional qualification to an Masters by undertaking the Research Methods Module and Dissertation. Using international business case studies highlighting best practice across a variety of sectors, industries and stakeholders, you will also evaluate different approaches to managing human resources. In addition to core and elective modules you will be expected to produce an internationally-focused dissertation. use

5 Public Relations MSc n Enrolment is now open, and the course commences in 2016 n Full Time (1 year), Part Time (2 years) n A new programme aligned closely to Public Relations Consultants Association and Chartered Institute of Public Relations knowledge standards n Enhanced career and promotion prospects n Taught by expert staff with experience of working in PR and event management industry Public Relations practice is relevant in every type of organisation; from small and medium sized enterprises to multi-national organisations operating in sectors as diverse as not for profit to finance and retail. This new integrated Masters programme focuses on how stakeholders can be persuaded to change their perceptions of a product or issue through public relations and effective event management. You will gain the skills and knowledge needed to work in the public relations and/or event management sectors, embracing corporate communications, internal communications. You will also become expert in the emerging discipline of online public relations, including search engine optimisation and social media strategy development. The programme will be delivered by an expert team of academics who have a broad range of practical and teaching experience in this field and are members of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA). During the validation period, the programme team will be seeking professional accreditation from PRCA and CIPR so that the programme s learning outcomes are closely matched to those of the industry s key professional bodies. Masters in Management programmes Our diverse range of MBA and MSc management programmes will enable you to gain an advanced understanding of management and strategy development while also offering you opportunities to specialise in a specific business discipline. Executive Development MBA n Part-time (18-24 months) n Totally customisable MBA - you choose a range of option modules to complement and build-on core modules n Delivered partly in blocks and in evenings for extra flexibility and to fit studies around existing commitments The MBA Executive Development programme is aimed at managers and professionals who have a minimum of two years relevant management experience and wish to develop a portfolio of leadership skills and business competencies. The MBA framework is designed around five key areas: finance, people, information, change and operations. Throughout the programme of study, you will be able to take control of your learning by customising your MBA experience by electing one option module from each of the key areas of learning as well as core modules. The MBA is delivered in two modes of study to suit your requirements - by block study on Wednesday afternoons and alternate weekends over 18 months in four taught semesters straight through over summer, or alternatively over 24 months with a summer break. Financial Management MSc n Full-time (1 year), part-time (2 years) n Prepares graduates for a career in a wide variety of positions within the finance profession n Learn to think strategically about finance with an emphasis on research and critical analysis This in-depth programme will develop your practical skills through an analysis of current literature, case studies and worldwide events by applying financial and management knowledge to improve your organisational effectiveness and efficiency. 7 The University understands the importance of gaining experience while learning, applying theory and knowledge in the real world. I started on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with LJMU, and the company I now work for as a Management Consultant offered me the chance to apply for the MBA courses. The skills and knowledge gained on the course are regularly applied with my clients today. Siobhan Doran, Masters in Business Administration Executive Leadership (part time), also studied the BSc (Hons) in Information Systems at LJMU. She is a Management Consultant at TQMI, a consultancy and advisory service for businesses.

8 Professional Doctorate (DBA) Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) n Part-time over a duration of 3-7 years so the DBA can be completed alongside fulltime employment n September 2015 and January 2016 start dates n Qualification equivalent to PhD so is appropriate for those pursuing a professional career The DBA provides senior executives and managers with the opportunity to achieve the highest academic qualification while remaining in full-time employment. It will appeal to managers who are looking for a challenge and want to pursue a doctorate that will lead to new areas of professional practise. The DBA offers a structured programme including four residential workshops - two in year one, followed by one each in years two and three. LJMU will cover all accommodation costs for the residential workshops, and students will take part in action learning sets every four to six weeks over three years. DBA students will receive on-going personal supervision to ensure your research is on schedule. This qualification will enhance your ability to develop new knowledge and research skills, and by applying this in a professional context it will make a tangible impact to individuals and organisations. Employers of DBA graduates have demonstrated a direct benefit from the research their employees have undertaken in areas of interest, in particular gaining invaluable and objective feedback that provides them with a considerable piece of original and focused consultancy. This is an exciting time to carry out research at Liverpool Business School. Our current research students and academic staff are working across a range of topics, covering social enterprises, corporate and social responsibility, social return on investment, ethnography, place marketing and entrepreneurship. Doctoral students are encouraged to publish their research, in collaboration with their supervisors, during the life of the programme. Doctoral students have access to their own research suite in Redmonds Building, so they can establish a base at the University from which to conduct their research and forge supportive networks with other students and staff. Students also have access to LJMU s comprehensive library service and regular meetings with supervisors.

9 I was surprised by the amount of time our supervisors spent with us. They gave us lots of support. Dieter Früauff completed a Doctorate in Business Administration. He is Senior Vice-President at Frankfurt Airport and his thesis on knowledge management focused on the Airport s business processes. He is pictured with Marion Kahrens, who works in a senior position for 1&1 Internet AG, who also graduated with a DBA.

The funding offers graduates a fantastic opportunity to secure a Masters qualification in any discipline without added financial worry. PhD Scholarships Support for full-time three year studentships is available via our LJMU PhD Scholarship scheme. Studentships are available for applicants in all disciplines where excellent research is being performed. n Fully-funded three year PhD Scholarships comprise: annual fees (currently 3,845 per year), a contribution towards running costs ( 1,500 per year) plus an annual stipend ( 13,863 per year, normally awarded tax free). n Fees-only Scholarships are also available. All applications for PhD Scholarships must be submitted via your future Director of Studies. The number of Scholarships available is limited. International Scholarships LJMU offers a range of scholarships for international applicants accepted onto taught masters programmes (excluding distance learning programmes) and research degrees. For full eligibility criteria and details on how to apply, go to: ljmu.ac.uk/international English for Postgraduate Studies Bursary A Bursary is also available for international students who must complete the six week English for Postgraduate Studies course to improve their IELTS score by 0.5 prior to enrolling on their postgraduate course or research programme at the University. This course is run by LJMU s International Study Centre: ljmuisc.com This Bursary is worth 700 and takes the form of a tuition fee waiver, which will be deducted from your tuition fee when you progress onto your Masters degree or research programme. You do not need to complete the online scholarship application form to receive this Bursary. Please note: If you are awarded this Bursary you are not eligible to apply for an international scholarship.
