Master s Degree Prgram The Schl f Business and Infrmatin Technlgy ffers ne master s degree prgram: Master f Business Administratin (MBA). Objective The bjective f the master s degree prgrams is t prvide advanced training t thse wh wish t practice their prfessin with increased cmpetence in the glbal business industries. The prgram emphasizes bth mastery f subject matter and an understanding f related research and research methdlgy. This emphasis implies develpment f the student s ability t integrate and apply the subject matter. Cmmittee Oversight The respnsibility fr develping, mdifying, and maintaining the master s degree prgram is perfrmed by the Academic Cmmittee fr this Schl. The Academic Cmmittee is lead by a designated grup f members wh invite inputs frm qualified students, faculty, administratrs, emplyers, as well as the Advisry Cmmittee members t cnduct their duties. Credential Requirements The master s degree prgram applicants must hld a valid bachelr s degree and meet the minimum grade pint average requirement fr cnsideratin f acceptance. Applicatin Requirements T apply fr admissin int a master s degree prgram, the applicant is required t submit the fllwing t the NPU Admissins Office: (1) an Applicatin Frm (nline r hardcpy), (2) a nnrefundable applicatin fee, (3) fficial transcripts frm previusly attended clleges; (4) a dcument certifying cmpletin f a bachelr s degree; a transcript printed with degree cmpletin infrmatin will suffice (5) an English prficiency dcument is required fr nn-native English speakers: An fficial transcript with English curse recrds r TOEFL/IELTS scre reprt r equivalent will suffice. NPU s English assessment exam, when available, can be taken by the applicant t meet this requirement. See English Prficiency Requirement belw fr detailed infrmatin n the English entrance requirement, and (6) 104 Entrance assessment test: GMAT fr the MBA degree applicants. Applicants have the ptin t take the n-campus equivalent assessment test. The scres are fr reference purpse and will nt affect the admissin evaluatin fr the applicants. (7) Resumes are required fr applicants interested in applying fr schlarships. - Internatinal Students: In additin t the abve general applicatin requirements, an internatinal applicant is als required t submit the fllwing additinal dcuments: (a) cpy f applicant s passprt, (b) a financial supprt dcument either the applicant s bank statement r a certified affidavit f supprt (frm I-134 r equivalent) frm a financial spnsr indicating that a minimum amunt f $30,000 is available fr the applicant t pursue his/her study in the first academic year at NPU, (c) a transfer student (frm a U.S. institutin) is required t submit a phtcpy f his/her previus I-20 frm, visa, and I-94 (U.S Department f Hmeland Security issued arrival / departure frm). The student will be asked t shw an identificatin dcument attesting his/her fficial name, if applicable. Veteran Students: Currently the CSAAVE is the state agency respnsible fr apprving veteran educatin prgrams. English Prficiency Requirement Nn-native English speakers are cnsidered meeting the entrance English prficiency requirement if they meet any f the fllwing requirements: - Used English as the fficial language and cmpleted study in a high schl r cllege degree prgram, - Has cmpleted a cllege English credit curse in an English speaking institutin, - Has submitted an fficial TOEFL r IELTS test scre reprt t NPU and the scre meets the entrance English requirement set by the NPU admissins ffice. The TOEFL institutin cde fr NPU is 9626. Cnditinal acceptance may be granted t applicants whse TOEFL/IELTS scres r ther equivalent recrds d nt meet the abve requirement but have reached intermediate level f the American Language classes (ESL) ffered by NPU. These students will be required t enrll in ESL classes until they pass the
advanced level ESL classes befre enrlling in degree curses. NPU s English Placement Examinatin (EPE): An applicant may be ffered the ptin t take NPU s English Placement Examinatin in place f the standardized tests. The exam result affects the applicant s admissin status. A fee will be charged fr this service. NPU may accept the English assessment reprts frm a few U.S. English language institutins recgnized by majr universities in the U.S. General Backgrund Requirements fr Pursuing Master s Degree Backgrund Preparatin: The backgrund preparatin fr the master s degree prgram is described at the beginning f the prgram. Backgrund deficiencies are identified in the admissin evaluatin reprt received by each applicant. The student is required t clear the deficiencies early in his/her study at NPU. Hw t Clear Deficiencies: The graduate student may clear each backgrund deficiency by taking and passing the preparatry mdule curse at NPU. The student may earn graduate elective credit when taking mezzanine curses t clear deficiencies at NPU. With advance apprval by the Admissins Cmmittee, the student may be allwed t clear a deficiency by taking a prficiency exam n the subject. Curses taken elsewhere after jining the degree prgram at NPU will nt waive a deficiency requirement. Students may nt take the deficiency curses at anther institutin while attending NPU. Transfer f Credit frm Other Institutins Graduate curse credit earned at ther accredited higher educatin institutins may be transferable t meet the student s graduatin requirements if the curses are clsely related t the business management curse requirements in the MBA prgram and the grade earned meets the requirement stated belw. Such curse credits are cnsidered qualified transfer credits. Credit transfer is made by the admissin evaluatrs while cnducting the admissin evaluatin. The fllwing statements apply t qualified transfer credits: 105 - The NPU Admissins Office must receive all fficial transcripts prir t the student s jining a degree prgram. Withut preapprval, transcripts received after the student jins NPU cannt be used in transferring credits, except fr recrds frm the term immediately preceding the student s starting semester at NPU. - The student was fficially enrlled in the curse. - N mre than 9 units f qualified graduatelevel curse credits may be transferred. - Curses fr transfer t NPU may nt be cmpleted cncurrently at anther institutin while attending NPU. - Credits are transferred by the fllwing cnversin: Definitin f a Trimester/Semester Unit: One trimester/semester credit hur equals, at a minimum, 15 classrm hurs f lecture, 30 hurs f labratry, and 45 hurs f practicum. Cnversin Factr: 1 quarter unit = 0.66 trimester/semester unit Grades Required fr Transfer Credit In the master s degree prgram, curses cmpleted with a grade f "B" r better are transferable. Curses cmpleted with a CREDIT grade are transferable nly if the institutin s grading plicy states that CREDIT is granted with a letter grade which meets the abve cnditin. This plicy must be in writing frm the institutin (transcript key r letter f verificatin). NPU undergraduate students wh take graduate level curses fr graduate credits at NPU while cmpleting their undergraduate degrees are allwed a maximum f 12 units t be cunted twards a graduate degree. These curses may nt cunt twards the undergraduate degree. These students may apply fr admissin t a master s degree prgram at NPU in the last semester f their undergraduate study. They are required t cmplete their undergraduate study befre being fficially admitted int a graduate prgram. Prficiency Exams: A student may be required t demnstrate prficiency in an undergraduate backgrund subject taken mre than ten years prir t applicatin with
NPU by successful cmpletin f a prficiency examinatin. A student may als select t take prficiency exams t clear his/her backgrund deficiencies in rder t satisfy the backgrund preparatin required by his/her prgram. Rules fr taking prficiency exams must be bserved by the student. Of particular imprtance is timing fr taking each prficiency exam. Clearance f a backgrund subject must be cmpleted early enugh t meet tw cnditins: (1) There must be sufficient time fr administrative prcessing f the exam and (2) Prcessing f the exam must be cmpleted prir t the student s registratin in any curse with the deficiency subject as a prerequisite fr the curse. Tuitin Tuitin is charged per unit. Tuitin fr curses taken t fulfill the master s degree requirement is $450.00 per unit. Tuitin per Unit fr Curses Audited Fr curses audited (withut earning credit), the tuitin is half the regular unit rate. Nt all curses can be taken with audit status. Additinal cursewrk may be required fr a student whse undergraduate degree prgram was in a discipline ther than that f the master s degree prgram. The MBA degree prgram requires cursewrk in the fllwing categries: 1. Fundatin Requirements, 2. Cre Requirements, 3. Electives, and 4. A Capstne Curse. The fllwing are required fr graduatin: - A graduate student admitted with undergraduate deficiencies must clear the deficiencies in the early terms. The student may clear a subject by either taking the curse and earning a passing grade r passing a prficiency exam n the subject, - Maintain a grade f C- r better fr all curses taken t clear deficiencies r twards the degree requirements, - Maintain an verall G.P.A. f 3.0 r better, - Maintain gd standing with the University with clear financial, library, and ther schl recrds, - The student is apprved t graduate after filing a petitin fr graduatin. Capstne Curse The capstne curse is intended t integrate the knwledge and skills that the student has acquired frm the curses taken in the prgram. The capstne curse instructr determines the curse bjectives and scpe based n the prgram curriculum and business trend. With this learning experience, the student is prepared t pursue his/her career in the changing glbal business arena. The student shall take the capstne curse near the end f his/her prgram f study. Career Planning The students are encuraged t utilize the nline ecareer Center and wrk with the Career Center staff t prepare their resumes and participate in jb search activities when they are ready fr such a pursuit. Master f Business Administratin (MBA) Objectives: The primary bjectives f the MBA degree prgram are: (1) t prvide a knwledge base f interdisciplinary business theries and techniques t the students, (2) t train and t develp students practical skills fr career develpment, and (3) t develp the students decisin-making and leadership capabilities t face the challenges f a dynamic business wrld staged with diverse, multicultural, and glbal business settings. The emphases are in the fields f mdern glbal business management and digital enterprise system management. Specific studies cver the fields f accunting, financial management, prject management, mdern infrmatin management systems, and business marketing. Backgrund Preparatin Students admitted int the MBA degree prgram are required t have prper business backgrund preparatin fr taking the graduate level cursewrk. A student with any backgrund deficiency is required t take the specifically designed business preparatry mdel curse t clear it. The student must clear prerequisites befre taking the degree required curses. In additin, English prficiency is als required. Students wh have earned a business degree frm an accredited US university/cllege may request fr a waiver f subjects having been taken at the ther university/cllege.
