Professional Managers Annual Conference Adding value to business schools Programme 3-4 December 2015, Regent s University London
Professional Managers Annual Conference 2015 - Adding value to business schools - 3-4 December 2015, Regent s University London The management and governance of business schools, as with all matrix institutions, is no easy matter. Moreover, ever increasing demands from politicians, university leaders, and students, coupled with rapidly changing regulations and policies, make the work of professional services teams ever more critical, complex and challenging. Yet, despite playing a vital role within business schools, professional managers still report that they are often undervalued and even seen as simply a spare pair of hands for their academic colleagues. On the 3 & 4 December 2015 the Chartered Association of Business s hosts its annual conference for professional managers. Gathering heads of administration, school managers, senior operating officers, faculty managers, accreditation and other specialist managers from UK business schools, this year s programme explores both why professional managers add value to their institutions and how this value can be increased in practical and measurable ways. Conference highlights: Hear from Paul Greatrix, Registrar, University of Nottingham about the value of professional services in the management and governance of universities and business school. Join the debate with Laurie Taylor, sociologist and presenter of BBC Radio 4 s Thinking Allowed, about the challenges for the relationship between professional managers and the academic community. Hear from Jayne Dowden, Chief Operating Officer, Cardiff Business about the new The Cardiff Professional initiative Find out about how the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust developed and implemented a performance based appraisal system and how this approach might be applied to business schools. Explore the legal and governance challenges facing professional managers with David Palfreyman, Bursar and Fellow of New College, Oxford Hear from Dr Celia Whitchurch, Senior Lecturer, Centre for Higher Education Studies, UCL Institute of Education about the rise of the 'third space' professional Venue: Regent s University London Regent s Park campus Inner Circle, Regent s Park London NW1 4NS Participants are responsible for their own accommodation.
