CD Update Instructions Before You Begin 1. Make sure you have a full backup of your system before starting the update procedure. If it ever becomes necessary to back out a change to the system, a full restoration can be made. Make note of your current Jonas release number (found in the bottom right corner of any Jonas session). It will come in handy when you print a list of the latest enhancements. 2. All users of Jonas must be logged off the system and completely out of Jonas (including the login screen). Stop running any interfaces, i.e. Call Accounting, Hotel Interfaces or Jonas Activity Management before starting the update. Two ways of ensuring this are to re-start the Jonas server or have your network administrator temporarily restrict access to the Jonas server. ClubHouse Online clients will need to stop Web Services from running. See Knowledge Base article #4157 on how to do this. 3. Jonas Software recommends that you install the CD and log into Jonas for the first time after updating at the Jonas Server console. If you cannot access your server directly, you can install Jonas from a workstation that has administrative privileges to the server, but this method will be slower. If installing the Jonas update on a Citrix or Terminal Server solution, the update must be installed at the server console. 4. When possible, do not load an update outside Jonas regular business hours (8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. EST/EDT) Monday to Friday. 5. When possible, load the update during non-busy times; for example, after month end, statement runs, etc. If possible, please complete all open batch processes such as accounts payable invoices, payrolls, cash receipts, POS end-of-day, etc. We recommend you load the update the first thing in the morning when your company has a full backup available and no processing has taken place for the day. 6. Prior to installing a new Jonas Software Version Upgrade (for example, changing your system from version 12.1 to 12.2), Jonas Remote Management System (JRMS) and Multi-Site Membership users must finish processing, prepare and transfer the files between Head Office and Remote location(s), and upload the transferred files. Now you are ready to install your Jonas Software Version Upgrade CDs at all locations.
Software CD 1. Insert the Software CD into your server CD drive (if installing on the server; usually drive letter D: or E: if installing from a workstation). 2. Wait 5-20 seconds and the following menu will appear on your screen. Note: If this screen does not appear, go to My Computer and select the CD drive. Select EXISTING INSTALL. The screen will slide out to reveal further options. Use the QUIT option to exit the installation at any time. INSTALL JONAS UPDATE This menu option starts the installation of the Jonas Update. Refer to the Install Jonas Update section for additional information. RELEASE NOTES This menu option will allow you to view the Release and Enhancement Notes related to this update.
Install Jonas Update 1. Click on INSTALL JONAS UPDATE from the menu. Step your way through the installer screens by clicking on Next. 2. Select the Select Destination Directory (see following screen). If the installation program fails to find the path to your Activation, the software installation will stop with a warning message. Click on Browse to choose the location where Jonas was activated and is installed. If the problem persists, contact Jonas Support. If installing from a workstation, click on Browse to choose the network drive letter to the share on the Jonas server (usually J:). If this fails, you may have lost your network connection with the server. You should exit Windows and re-start your workstation, which should re-establish your network connection. Once this is done, you can start re-installing the update. If the problem persists, contact Jonas Support. 3. Decide if you would like to prevent other users (see following screen) from starting up Jonas for the first time on another machine after the update is completed. Doing this can reassure you that the installation ran successfully (because you can monitor it) and that there were no problems.
4. The Installation Completed! screen will appear upon completion of the update. It reminds you that further updates have been added to the software since the CD was created and to obtain the latest version from the Jonas Support website. 5. Click on Finish and the following Windows Install screen will appear. Click Cancel - no changes have been made that require you to re-start your machine.
6. Start the Jonas program at one location by double-clicking on the shortcut icon on the desktop or through the Start > Programs menu. The program will automatically start rebuilding the screens and data files. Jonas strongly recommends that you perform this step on your Jonas Server for the fastest completion speeds. If there is no Jonas icon on your Jonas Server, run the INSTALL / RE-INSTALL WORKSTATIONS item from the TOOLS & HELP CD menu. Remember: if you answered YES to the Load Location Question during step 3, you can ONLY start Jonas up on the machine where you installed the CD. 7. Once this procedure has been completed and the Jonas Login screen appears, all other users can start Jonas on their terminals. IMPORTANT When you first start Jonas after your update, you should see the following screen. If you don t see this screen, first confirm with your users to ensure that it did not run at any other location (especially if you answered NO to the Load Location Question). If you re sure it did not run, please contact Jonas Support immediately at one of our toll free numbers: 1 800 352 6647 (Canada & U.S.) 00 800 1800 0400 (Universal Toll Free) 08 0098 1635 (South Africa) 001 800 514 5568 (Mexico)
Downloading the Jonas Product Update from the Internet The latest Jonas Product Update can be downloaded from the Enhancement section of the Jonas Support Website. Doing this on a regular basis will ensure that you keep your Jonas software current and problem free. Unlike CD updates, running the General Release Product Update from the web will not require you to interrupt your operations by having all users out of Jonas. Note: Running Advanced Release Product Updates from the web still requires all users to be logged off the system and completely out of Jonas before starting the update. The Jonas website can be accessed by going to: www.jonassupport.com. You will be required to login with the User name and Password that has been supplied to you. If you require a User name and Password to access the Jonas Support section of the website, please contact Jonas Support. Only the main or alternate contacts on file with Jonas Support will be given this information for security reasons. Tip: Forgotten your assigned User name and Password? From the Jonas Support home page, click on Reset Password to have them emailed to the main or alternate contact on file. Jonas Activity Management (JAM) Clients
New JAM Clients: Congratulations on your purchase of the Jonas Activity Management System. To continue your JAM implementation, please see the JAM FAQ and Technical Deployment Guide documents found in the {Jonas Drive Letter}:\GJCWIN\TOOLS\Jonas.NET\Install\ folder (usually J:\GJCWIN\TOOLS\Jonas.NET\Install\). They will guide you on your further installation steps. Existing JAM Clients: After updating, a new build of the Activity Management version has been copied to your {Jonas Drive Letter}:\GJCWIN\TOOLS\Jonas.NET\Install\ folder (usually J:\GJCWIN\TOOLS\Jonas.NET\Install\). A managed approach to updating each workstation where JAM is running is highly recommended see the System Administration Guide within JAM > Help for updating instructions. Spring 2012
