INFORMATION SYSTEMS SERVICE NETWORKS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTOR User Guide: Connecting to the University of Cyprus wireless network ucywifi for Windows Vista operating systems ΥΠΣ ΕΔ/56 Last review date: 26/04/2012 General information on the ucywifi wireless network can be found at the end of this guide, Section General Information Step 1: Click on the network connections icon located to the right side your computer s taskbar:
Step 2: Click on the Open Network and Sharing Center option located to the bottom left side of the window: Step 3: Click on Manage wireless networks option located to the left side of the window: 2
Step 4: Click the Αdd button to add the ucywifi wireless network. In case ucywifi is already shown in the list, click on it and then click on the Remove button (the Remove button will appear next to the Add button). You will be asked to confirm the deletion. Click Yes to confirm it. Then click on the Add button and proceed with the following steps in the guide: Step 5: Click on the Manually create a network profile option: 3
Step 6: On the new window that will appear, complete the fields as shown below and then click on the Next button: Network name: ucywifi Security type: WPA2-Enterprise Encryption type: AES Step 7: Click on the Change connection settings option: 4
Step 8: On the following window that will appear go to the second tab, Security, and make sure that all fields are completed as shown in the image below. The Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network option must not be checked. In the Choose a network authentication method field select Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click on the Settings button: 5
Step 9: From the Protected EAP window that will appear, un-check the option Validate server certificate. Next, for the Select Authentication Method field choose Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and then click on the Configure button: Step 10: A small window resembling the image below will appear. Un-check the option Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) and click OK: 6
Step 11: Click OK (you will need to click OK three times) to close the remaining windows. Step 12: Click on the network connections icon located to the right side your computer s taskbar in order to view the available wireless networks: Step 13: Select the ucywifi network and then click on Connect: 7
Step 14: A new window will appear in which you will be prompted to enter your username (with the suffix @ucy.ac.cy) and password (username/password are those you use for accessing your University email account). The Logon domain should remain empty. Once you fill in the required information, click OK. IMPORTANT: If your email address is of the following format: georghiou.george@ucy.ac.cy, and you have been given an alias email such as ggeorge@ucy.ac.cy for example, then you must use ggeorge@ucy.ac.cy as the username for accessing the service. After you have entered the correct credentials and clicked OK, you will have successfully connected to the ucywifi wireless network. In order to confirm that you are connected to this network and view further details, you can click on the Wireless Connections icon located on the taskbar and the relative information shall be shown. 8
General Information The ucywifi wireless network access service allows for the establishment of a wireless connection and access to the Internet and is available to all the members of the university community who have been assigned a University of Cyprus unique username (academic and administrative staff, students) The ucywifi wireless network uses the security protocol WPA2 Enterprise / AES, which enables a secure connection and communication. Supported devices on which the service has been tested successfully and the respective user guides can be found at the following page http://www.ucy.ac.cy/goto/iss/en- US/ucywifi.aspx The advanced settings configuration procedure described in the above user guide needs be performed only the first time a connection to the ucywifi is attempted. 9
