Wi- Fi settings for Windows XP On the TU/e there are four Wlan network names or SSID's available. TUE-WPA2 2 The TUE-WPA2 network has WPA2 encryption. This network can be used by both TU/e students and TU/e employees. Wlan network name: tue-wpa2 Security mode: 802.1x with WPA2/AES Authentication protocol: PEAP with MSCHAPv2 Root certificate: GTE Cybertrust Global Root Eduroam 8 Students and employees of other institutions linked to SURFnet can use eduroam to access each other's networks. The SSID eduroam uses WPA2/AES encryption. Wlan network name: eduroam Security mode: 802.1x with WPA2/AES Authentication protocol: PEAP met MSCHAPv2 (usercode of the TU/e followed by @tue.nl) Root certificate: GTE Cybertrust Global Root Guest 9 The purpose of the Guest wireless network is to easily allow guests of the TU/e access to the network. The Guest network is unprotected. Wlan network name: guest Security mode: none Authentication protocol: none Root certificate: GTE Cybertrust Global Root Traverse The Traverse network is only available in Traverse, and only for the people who work there. /Dienst ICT / TDS 1
Configuring TUE WPA2 for Windows XP In order to be able to use the TU/e wireless network in combination with WPA2, your system must have either: Microsoft Windows Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Update for Windows XP (KB893357) Microsoft Windows Service Pack 3 (SP3) In order to configure your system, take the following steps: 1. Click the Start button and choose Control Panel, then choose Network Connections. 2. Double-click Wireless Network Connection. A window like the one in the next picture will appear. If tue-wpa2 is not listed as an available network, you will not be able to connect to it after you complete the steps in this manual. 3. Click Change advanced settings. 4. 5. Click Add to add the network name or SSID tue-wpa2. 6. At Network Authentication, select WPA2. 7. At Data encryption, select AES. 8. Click Authentication. /Dienst ICT / TDS 3
9. At EAP type, select Protected EAP (PEAP). 10. Check the box at Authenticate as computer when computer information is available. 11. Click Properties. /Dienst ICT / TDS 4
12. Check the box at Validate server Certificate. 13. At Trusted Root Certification Authorities, check the box for GTE CyberTrust Global Root. 14. Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2). 15. Click Configure. 16. Check the box at Automatically use my Windows logon name and password. 17. If possible, check if you can now connect to WPA2. 18. Click the Wireless icon in the system tray. 18. If you have configured your system while on the TU/e campus, your IP Address should start with 131.155. 19. Click General. 20. Click Properties. /Dienst ICT / TDS 6
21. Make sure the box at Show icon in notification area when connected is checked. 22. Click Wireless Networks. 23. Make sure the box at Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is checked. The configuration of WPA2 for XP is now finished. Configuring eduroam for Windows XP The settings are the same as above, except for the following points: o o o SSID is eduroam The username must be followed by @tue.nl Note: this is not your email address, but your TU/e usercode with the addition @tue.nl Uncheck the box at Automatically use my Windows logon name and password. /Dienst ICT / TDS 8
Configuring Guest for Windows XP 1. Select Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections. 2. Click with the right mouse button on 'Wireless Network Connections'. 3. Select Properties -> Wireless Networks. 4. Mark Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings and select Add. 5. Use guest for 'Network name (SSID)', select Disabled for Data encryption and click OK. /Dienst ICT / TDS 9
6. The VWN appears now under Preferred networks ; Click on Advanced. 7. Select Access Point (infrastructure) networks only' and click on Close and OK. /Dienst ICT / TDS 10
8. The configuration of the VWN is now completed and you can connect to it. Now you can start your Internet browser which will put you automatically in the login screen for the VWN. 9. Probably you will get a Security Alert popup concerning the Visitors portal certificate. To avoid this problem you should install the Cybertrust Educational CA from http://secure.globalsign.net/cacert/sureserveredu.crt 10.
