1 Date: Version: 2.1 Status: Complete Page 1 of 6 Introduction Netlogon uses IEEE 802.1x and PEAP for the purpose of authentication. This document describes the requirements for connecting a Windows XP client and the procedure for configuring the client correctly for wireless networking. Requirements The client (PC) should have: - Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home - Service Pack 2 installed. - The latest updates from Windows Update are strongly recommended! - 10/100Mb Ethernet network card - Network cable with RJ45 jack The user must: - Have an account in order to connect: - Students use the same username and password as in the library's computers and Studentnätet. - Personnel use their NetID, for more info: - Be in agreement with KAU s general och ethical rules for computer usage. Guide 1. Install the root certificate The root certificate ensures that you are authenticating with the proper authentication server. NOTE! This must be done when using a different connection to the network/internet because you cannot reach the link below if you attempt to connect your client to the Netlogon without the root certificate. A different connection could be at your normal workplace or at home via a modem/broadband. - Go to and install the certificate.

2 Date: Version: 2.1 Status: Complete Page 2 of 6 2. Configuring automatic IP address assign (DHCP) - Open the Control Panel and then Network Connections - Right click on Local Area Connection and then click Properties

3 Date: Version: 2.1 Status: Complete Page 3 of 6 - Tick the box Show icon in notification area when connected - Tick the box Internet Protocol TCP/IP and then click the Properties button - Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click OK. - Note! If you have a static IP address configured, make a note of it now!

4 Date: Version: 2.1 Status: Complete Page 4 of 6 3. Configure PEAP - Click on the Authentication tab - Tick Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network. - Choose Protected EAP (PEAP) from the EAP type drop-down list. - Click on Properties

5 Date: Version: 2.1 Status: Complete Page 5 of 6 - Tick the box Validate server certificate - Scroll down until you find It-enheten CA Root certificate, and tick it's box - Tick the box Enable Fast Reconnect - To the right of Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2), click Configure - Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) - Click OK three times to close all the dialog boxes.

Connect to Netlogon - Plug your PC into a Netlogon network outlet. - Wait until a connection notification pops up in the bottom-right corner of your desktop - Click on the pop-up bubble - Enter your username and password in the window - Click on OK
