THE POSITION Under the direction of the Chancellor, the President serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the college, leads the overall academic and student services direction for the college, ensures sound fiscal and facilities management and implements district policies and procedures. The President provides leadership and advocacy for the college, is supportive of and participates in district and college participatory processes and is responsible and directly accountable for all college operations to the Chancellor as a district cabinet member. THE COLLEGE Located on 154 acres of sloping hillside land in the eastern region of Ventura County, Moorpark College is the second-oldest and largest of the Ventura County Community College District s three colleges. Moorpark College was established by Board action in 1963 to serve the rapidly growing communities in the eastern part of the county. Its two sister colleges, Ventura College in the northwest county and Oxnard College in the southwest, were launched in 1925 and 1975, respectively. Moorpark College serves approximately 15,000 students in day, evening, and weekend classes. The college administrative team includes an Executive Vice President, a Vice President of Business Services, six Deans, two Directors, and eleven Supervisors. There are approximately 157 full-time faulty, 320 part-time faculty and 121 classified employees. COLLEGE MISSION As a public community college, Moorpark College offers programs and services accessible to the community. Drawing from a student-centered philosophy, Moorpark College creates learning environments that blend curriculum and services in providing to students: Introductions to the broad areas of human knowledge and understanding; Courses required for university transfer and career preparation or advancement; Skills in critical thinking, writing, reading, speaking, listening, and computing; Exposure to the values of diversity locally, nationally, and internationally; Extracurricular activities that promote campus community involvement and personal development; Preparation for the challenges and responsibilities of life and change in a free society and the global community.

THE DISTRICT The Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) is a public community college district serving residents of Ventura County. The District s three colleges provide a wide range of general education programs and services to students with a focus on our students educational interests. The District employs approximately 394 full-time faculty, 861 part-time faculty, 470 support staff and 49 managers. The VCCCD vision is to become the leader in the development of high quality and innovative educational programs and services. The primary mission of the VCCCD is to produce student learning in lower division level academic, transfer and career/vocational degree and certificate programs. Effective and efficient student support services are offered to assist in the accomplishment of the District s primary mission based on need and available resources. The VCCCD also works to enhance state, regional and local economic growth and global competitiveness. In addition, the District provides English as a Second Language instruction, basic skills instruction, adult education and supplemental learning services that contribute to student success based on need and available resources. VCCCD programs, services and activities operate within a framework of integrated planning and budgeting. The VCCCD engages in ongoing student learning outcomes assessment and systematic program review. This ensures district-wide excellence through sustainable and continuous quality improvement. Specifically, the President is expected to: Provide visionary leadership for the continuing development of student-oriented Master Plans that drive the budget process, resource allocation and facilities and technology planning utilizing a collaborative consensus building process. Assist the Chancellor in achieving the adopted goals of the Board and District mission, as well as being an effective and persuasive spokesperson and advocate for Moorpark College, its students, programs and future.

Foster an environment in which teaching and learning are central to the college mission and encourage ongoing curriculum and program development, including alternative teaching methods and techniques that meet the needs of a diverse student population. Effective Leadership and College Governance Demonstrate an open and inclusive management style, a commitment to academic excellence and innovation in a teaching-learning process, an advocacy for a comprehensive curriculum and a record of accomplishment in higher education. Support an atmosphere of trust and consensus building that is characterized by empowering others, team building, open communication and accessibility. Demonstrate commitment to equal opportunity and intercultural cooperation and respect sensitive communication with people who are diverse in their cultures, language groups and abilities. Student, Program and Service Excellence Implement goals, policies, regulations and methods related to effective curriculum and student services program development and implementation, program/class scheduling and needs assessment for instructional programs and student services. Promote theories on teaching and learning, including multicultural issues that affect instructional and student support programs and services. Advocate strongly for student success. Implement emerging technologies and the applications of technology to education. Fiscal Accountability Oversee the development and implementation of a complex budget within the provisions of the California community college fiscal environment, with a commitment to long-term fiscal stability. Pursue new revenue resources including the development of a strong Foundation. College and Community Relations Partner with local institutions of higher education, K-12 districts, business and industry. Develop strong community relations and involvement. Increase the diversity of the college, promote its accomplishments and develop appropriate marketing strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A master s degree from a recognized accredited institution and three years of full-time senior administrative experience in a community college and/or other accredited, postsecondary educational institution and/or comparable business or industry; or a California Community College Credential authorizing administrative service. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS An earned Doctoral Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Some teaching or non-classroom faculty experience. Student-centeredness and sensitivity to the effects of all decisions on students and the campus community. Experience serving as ardent supporter of the comprehensive community college and a person who models life-long learning. Experience in administrative responsibilities and sound fiscal management. Experience in academic and/or student services program development, enrollment management, facilities construction, and strategic planning. Integrity and honesty in personal and professional interactions. Knowledge of participatory governance with a demonstrative ability to forge consensus on difficult issues. Ability to empower others through team building and thereby promotes trust and collegiality. Ability to work within the framework of collective bargaining and address issues and resolve grievances in a timely manner. One who possesses an understanding of the role of a community college president in a complex, diverse higher education environment and multi-college district. Ability to promote the comprehensiveness of the college s mission while understanding the challenges of a changing economy and student needs, especially in the areas of basic skills development, technology, and alternative instructional delivery. Understanding of and ability to champion the integration of student and instructional services for student success. A desire to develop a strong presence in the community and building partnerships with businesses and other colleges and schools. Ability to actively broaden and strengthen the fund-raising role of the Foundation. Ability to promote and support the collegial and team spirit environment that exists at Moorpark College.

SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS Beginning salary is competitive and commensurate with the position. Fringe benefits include family medical, dental, life, and vision insurance plans. The work year is 12 calendar months, including 20 vacation days per year, two floating holidays, and an additional three days off during the winter break. The letter should give the committee a better understanding of how you will contribute as a fully participating member of the Ventura County Community College District. A current resume summarizing educational and administrative background and experience. A list of references, including names with business and home telephone numbers as follows: two supervisors, two people who report to you (including one support staff member), two community members, and two faculty members. References will not be contacted without the candidate s permission. Official or unofficial college/university transcripts demonstrating attainment of minimum qualifications. (An official copy of your transcripts will be required upon being hired.) The above documents will be the only information considered by the screening committee during the application screening process. SCREENING PROCESS The screening committee will review and screen all applications. The committee will invite the most qualified applicants to an initial interview. Following this, the Chancellor will interview the candidates recommended by the screening committee for final consideration.
