Chancellor POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Dean of Counseling, the Transfer/Career Counselor is a key position in the enhancement of San Jose City College's quality academic system. Position Summary The faculty position is a full time, 100% FTE position as Transfer/Career Counselor. Actual percentage split between the two areas will vary based on the needs of the department. The work year is 175 days. Some workdays may be assigned outside of the ten-month academic calendar. The assignment may include day, evening and weekend responsibilities. This position is represented by AFT Position Purpose: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This faculty member will: Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Develop goals and objectives for the Transfer/Career Center in collaboration with the Career/Transfer Center Advisor. 2. Provide potential transfer students with information on transfer possibilities and procedures, and encourage them to choose transfer as an educational goal; as well as follow up with students. 3. Administer and interpret individual interest, skills, abilities, and value
3 career assessment instruments. 4. Develop marketing strategies for department services, activities, projects, programs, and events, including flyers, brochures, and other publications, social media, and internet marketing. 5. Collaborate and communicate with four-year universities/colleges, employers, government and community agencies, District faculty, administrators, and staff, and other community college faculty, administrators, and staff to coordinate and develop services, programs, and agreements for transfer and employment of students including career-based internships. 6. Assess effectiveness of Center's services by developing and implementing surveys, student learning outcomes (SLO), the area's annual and comprehensive program review, and statistical analyses. 7. Serve as the primary point of contact with universities and the state Chancellor's Office regarding transfer issues, policies, programs, and reporting. 8. Establish and maintain liaison with four-year colleges/universities, high school personnel, and agencies to disseminate information and develop transfer and recruitment services. 9. Assess individual career development needs, providing students the skills necessary to understand the ramifications of their career decisions and actions. 10. Keep all college staff informed of developments in transfer and careers. 11. Develop, design, and initiate promotional material targeted to both general and specific populations as potential transfer/recruitment sources. 12. Assist with all Career/Transfer Fairs. 13. Plan, organize, coordinate and implement transfer activities such as Transfer Day, visits from university representatives, workshops associated with the university admissions process, visits/field trips to four-year institutions and/or other events associated with transfer process. 14. Counsel students regarding career identification, decision making, and choosing a major. 15. Assist students in defining educational goals and developing educational plans. 16. Develop systems to track student's progress towards transfer. 17. Assist in planning and providing career counseling to incoming and

Lead initiatives that increase the institution's transfer rate of students. 20. Establish positive relationships with external partners that promote high school - community college - pathways for students desiring a four year college degree. 21. Other duties and responsibilities include teach transfer guidance class; curriculum development; committee assignments; office hours; faculty meeting attendance; and other services, as assigned by the college and district. 22. Act as liaison counselor to one or more academic disciplines. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1. Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling OR *The equivalent Minimum Qualifications: (Note: A Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist - MFT - is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section ) 2. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve; and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination. 3. Success integrating diversity as appropriate into the major duties outlined in the job description and in the duties listed in the District's hiring policy; or demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to do so. Experience working with counselors, faculty and students in a cooperative, open and responsive manner. 5. Demonstrated successful experience in being able to communicate with and relate to students from various life-styles, ethnic and income groups.
