Department of Management History The Department of Management has a long tradition of studies in economics and business, uniting aspects of theory and practice. The Scuola Superiore di Commercio (Business School), which dates back to 1868, was the first institution in Italy, and the second in Europe, to provide higher education in business economics. In 1928 the Business School came under the aegis of the National Ministry of Education, which in 1935 established for the first time the Faculty of Economics and Commerce; from that year on the School became a Faculty. In 1971 the first degree course in Business Administration was set up, the first of its kind in a State university in Italy. In 1984 the Department of Economics and Business Administration was established and was responsible for setting up the Doctoral program in Business Administration. Since 1966, the Department has organized work placements (in enterprises and institutions both in Italy and abroad) which are closely linked with the teaching activities related to business case studies. In 2004 the Department of Economics and Business Administration moved to the new Economics campus at San Giobbe, which has lecture rooms, research labs and other facilities, as well as a modern Library which, with its five kilometers of open shelves, has over 200,000 volumes. The Department of Management, which was set up in 2011, now encompasses a broad range of subject areas that impact on modern business management. Today, the Department offers Bachelor s and Master s degree courses, as well as Professional Master s degrees (first and second levels) and a Doctoral program in Management. Degree courses are available in Italian and English in order to foster the process of internationalization through double degree programs and international student exchanges with Universities throughout the world, as well as the Erasmus+ exchange program.
