The American Diabetes Association and The Connecticut Alliance of Diabetes Educators Present the 43rd Annual Symposium on Diabetes For The Health Care Professional 7:30 AM 3:30 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012 Crowne Plaza Hotel 100 Berlin Road Cromwell, Connecticut

Target Audience: This one-day symposium on diabetes is designed for nurses, dietitians, and other health professionals. Teaching/learning strategies at this activity include lectures, slides, question and answer interaction and handouts. Learning Objectives By attending this course, the participant should be able to: Discuss the ADA clinical guidelines for diabetes management and treatment goals. List barriers to medical therapies. Explain drug-induced hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia affects of selected medications. Identify strategies to market their program to gain the competitive edge. Illustrate patient self-management strategies through the use of case studies. Accreditation Statements Nurses: The American Diabetes Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s COA. California Board of Registered Nursing: The American Diabetes Association is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider No. CEP-1296. This activity is approved for 5.5 contact hours. Pharmacists: The American Diabetes Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This knowledge-based activity provides 5.5 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. The ACPE UAN is 0239-9999-12-189-L01-P. Each pharmacist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she spent in the education activity. Dietitians: The American Diabetes Association is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 5.5 professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/material. Certified Diabetes Educators: To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification by continuing education for the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE List of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not approve continuing education. The American Diabetes Association is on the NCBDE List of Approved Providers. Successful Completion Statement: Certificates of Completion/Attendance are provided to registered attendees based upon completion of the online evaluation available through November 30, 2012 at http://professional.diabetes.org/ashcp.
