Career and Cllege Prmise prvides three pathways t help advance eligible students pst-high schl success: 1) Cllege Transfer Pathway leading t a minimum f 30 hurs f cllege transfer credit; 2) Career Technical Educatin Pathway leading t a certificate, diplma, degree, r an entry-level jb credential; and 3) Cperative Innvative High Schl Prgrams Pathway wherein students begin earning cllege credits as high schl freshmen. Career and Cllege Prmise Pathways Cllege Transfer Pathway (CT) The Career and Cllege Prmise Cllege Transfer Pathway requires the cmpletin f at least 30 semester hurs f transfer curses, including English and mathematics. Students wh cmplete a Cllege Transfer Pathway will be able t transfer all f their credits t any UNC institutin and many f Nrth Carlina s independent clleges and universities. The student must demnstrate cllege readiness n an assessment r placement test in English, reading, and mathematics t be eligible. Currently COA ffers tw Cllege Transfer Pathways: Assciate in Arts and Assciate in Science. Career Technical Educatin Pathway (CTE) The Career and Cllege Prmise Career Technical Educatin Pathway leads t an entry-level jb credential, diplma, r degree aligned with a high schl Career and Technical Educatin cluster. Cllege Career Technical Educatin curses may be used t prvide partial r full fulfillment f a fur-unit career cluster. Currently COA ffers the fllwing CTE pathways: Air Cnditining, Heating and Refrigeratin Technlgy, Architectural Technlgy, Business, Cmputer Engineering Technlgy, Cmputer Infrmatin Technlgy, Cmputer Prgramming, Culinary Arts, Electrical Systems Technlgy, Mechanical Engineering Technlgy, Medical Assisting, Sustainability Technlgies, and Welding Technlgy. Cperative Innvative High Schl Prgrams Pathway (CIHSP) Cperative Innvative High Schl Prgrams enrll 100 r fewer students per grade level and prvide pprtunities fr students t cmplete an assciate degree prgram r earn up t tw years f cllege credit within five years. Students begin earning cllege credits as high schl freshmen. Cllege f The Albemarle is partnering with J.P. Knapp Early Cllege High Schl in Currituck Cunty.

Benefits f High Schl Students Taking Cmmunity Cllege Curses By attending cllege credit classes, students begin t build credits tward a cllege certificate, diplma, r assciate s degree at the same time that they are earning high schl credits fr high schl graduatin. Typically, students may earn up t tw years f cllege credit while wrking n high schl graduatin requirements. Curses that are identified as cllege transfer curses are fully transferable t any f the 16 universities within the UNC System as well as selected independent clleges and universities. The instructrs are highly credentialed in their subject area, meeting the Nrth Carlina Cmmunity Cllege System s academic and technical requirements. Saves $$$$ -There is n tuitin fr students wh are accepted int the Career and Cllege Prmise prgrams, making participatin a wise ecnmic decisin. Cllege transfer students d nt pay tuitin but must purchase their textbks. Lcal bards f educatin may pay fr the cst f textbks fr high schl students enrlled in a cmmunity cllege curse.
Students save up t $500 per cllege curse taken at COA in which they receive credit and/r placement. Depending n which cllege they chse t attend at the end f their high schl career this savings is significantly higher. The prgram helps intrduce students t a cllege campus and t academic rigr with familiar friends, taking the hesitatin ut f pursuing life-lng educatinal and training gals in an unfamiliar envirnment.
