Business Insights Analyst Job Description College Context Havering is a large college of Further and Higher Education. It offers provision in a wide range of vocational areas to its local community of Havering, but also draws students from Redbridge, Newham and Barking and Dagenham and a wider area of Essex, Kent and Inner London. The College is situated on three main sites; Ardleigh Green, Quarles in Harold Hill and Rainham. The College currently has a cohort of approximately 10,000 learners who are studying a wide range of academic and vocational programmes for adults and school leavers, including courses from foundation level to degrees and post graduate qualifications. Our provision is increasingly flexible, responding to the needs of the community. Courses are available in the evening as well as at the weekend and at venues in the community. The College employs approximately 600 staff. Reporting Relationships Responsible to: Principal Responsible for: The production, analysis and dissemination of high quality, current and relevant labour market, customer and business information which informs the college strategic direction and business planning. This will include the analysis and reporting of key sector government policy. Job Purpose The Business Insights Analyst will support the Principal and senior management team and make a significant contribution to a broad programme of business and strategic analysis underpinning the college s strategic objectives. You will support the monitoring and evaluation of actionable business intelligence, produce customer insights reports, analyse education policy reports and good practice information. You will support a programme of analysis and evaluation to measure progress against targets.

The post holder will manage the college wide student and employer satisfaction surveys, including analysis and dissemination of results and will have particular responsibility for the management of a modular level student satisfaction programme and the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey. The post holder will design and implement business research projects which will inform the college s strategy and provide relevant and targeted business intelligence. This will involve planning and undertaking qualitative and quantitative research, commissioning both internal and external qualitative and quantitative research to inform the college s strategic direction, working with colleagues across the college where appropriate. This will include using the college s own internal data. The post holder will support cross-college projects and working groups as required, conducting competitor analysis and responding to ad hoc information requests, providing Faculties with information which will aid their recruitment and retention strategies. Reports, papers and briefing notes will also be supplied to a range of college groups/committees. The post holder will hold a degree in a relevant subject and/or a relevant professional qualification. Experience of planning and undertaking business/social research projects, analysing and presenting business/social research findings to inform decision making is essential, as is experience of disseminating research results to a wide range of audiences. In addition you must have experience of project management with a high level of computer literacy including the use of spreadsheets. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels, strong organisational and project management abilities with a proven record of ability to meet strict deadlines in a busy working environment and strong analytical and report writing skills. You will have prior experience of delivering the highest standards of performance and customer service with a commitment to students, the quality of their experience, and to their success now and in the future. You must also have a proactive, positive and collaborative approach to working with a wide range of colleagues with a willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evening and weekend work. Key Purpose The key purpose of the role is to deliver actionable business intelligence, customer insights reports, policy updates and good practice information that will contribute to driving the strategic plan and form a core element of both strategic and operational decision making. Duties and Responsibilities With minimal supervision, write high-quality, concise and insightful business analysis deliverables, designed for key decision makers within the college environment. 1. To develop reporting processes using a variety of reporting tools. 2. To produce management information that will lead to problem solving and improvements. 2

3. To assist in the development and maintenance of a Business Intelligence Framework. 4. To provide business intelligence information to Governors, Senior Management and College Committees. 5. To work with College Managers to develop relevant business intelligence measures that are responsive to the changing needs of the business. 6. To provide Managers at all levels with business intelligence information which will inform decision making, self assessment and target setting. This may include ad hoc reporting. 7. To ensure that all business intelligence reports are accurate, timely, relevant and readable. 8. To provide customer insights to the business by coordinating a variety of customer related surveys, analyse results and produce reports. 9. To develop, monitor and manage a Business Intelligence Library that stores all qualitative and quantitative research reports, good practice, performance and intelligence reports from across the college. 10. To provide regular policy updates and analysis which will inform strategic direction and planning. 11. Identify at risk areas to the Head of Quality. 12. Participate in staff development and training. 13. (Adjusted accordingly for part time roles) Standard public holidays are in addition to this. The leave year runs from 1 st September to 31 st August. Such hours as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities, average working week of 36 hours, 52 weeks per year. 34,642 per annum. Salaries are paid monthly on the last working day of the month. You will be required to have an account with a bank or building society, which can accept a direct credit transfer. 6 months Staff are required to work on any site as required. A No Smoking Policy is in operation throughout the College. 1 month s written notice on either side Upon appointment, you will be required to complete a Medical Questionnaire and may be required to undergo a medical examination. An enhanced DBS check is required for all posts within the College before you start work. The appointment is subject to two references, which are satisfactory to us. The conditions of service as recommended by the Association of Colleges as adopted by the College s Governing Body. A pension scheme is in operation through the Local Government Pension Scheme, but persons appointed may make their own arrangements. The contribution rate is variable between 5.5% and 7.5% of your Gross salary, dependent on your earnings, deducted on a monthly basis. The College recognises UNISON and the Association of College Management (ACM) as the appropriate Trade Unions for raising matters of staff concern. A staff travel and subsistence policy is in operation at the College and staff travelling between sites and on College business can claim a mileage rate for using their car. The College does not operate a car loan scheme. Staff are not allowed to engage as an employee, consultant, partner, proprietor or director in any other business without the prior written consent of the Principal. 6
