The Principal Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing post is located within the School of Health and Social Care, one of six Schools and one Centre within the College of Social Science. The School is one of the largest in the University and offers a portfolio of qualifying and post-qualifying programmes in the fields of Nursing, Social Work, Health and Social Care, cupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Current developments include the establishment of a College-wide Professional evelopment Centre, an ntegrated Masters programme and a firm commitment to interprofessional learning. The School has a flourishing Health and Social Care research group, with current projects including research into mental health issues, a number of funded primary care studies, the experiences of children and young people in public care and the development of social work in Russia. The Principal Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing post is a key position within the School, the College and the University that will offer the right person the opportunity to be the designated programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health) programme, with a projected growth of up to 120 students by September 2014. The Principal Lecturer will be responsible for leading and managing the programme in partnership with service organisations and will work as part of a core management team with the eputy Head of School, the Senior cademic in Nursing and the Principal Lecturer in dult Nursing to assure the quality of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing and health-related educational provision within the University.

Purpose and Objectives of the Post The post holder will be expected to contribute to the School and the University and will: Play a significant leadership and management role in the ongoing development of the BSc Nursing (Mental Health) programme. This includes further improving its reputation locally, regionally and nationally. Make a contribution to developing and growing the post-registration and post graduate health related programmes and short courses. Support the Senior cademic in Nursing in developing and sustaining strong partnership relationships with a range of external bodies including: the ast Midlands Strategic Health uthority, the local Health Communities and Trusts, and other Higher ducation nstitutions in the region. Contribute to the strategic management and development of the School as a member of the School Leadership Group. Represent the School in one area of College level activity, such as quality assurance, learning and teaching, international development, enterprise, research or research ethics. Provide leadership in fostering synergies across disciplines and supporting the growth in inter-professional learning. Contribute to and support research and scholarly activity across the School and College. Work collaboratively to develop income generating opportunities for the School and College within health care and the related sectors. Key uties and Responsibilities Research and scholarly activity Maintain a personal scholarly profile of at least national quality and reputation that enhances the reputation and standing of the Nursing programmes, the School and University. Work with the Senior cademic in Nursing to support the development of scholarly activity and research within the nursing team and School, informed by the research strategy, assessment exercises such as the RF, and the aspirations and capabilities of staff. Seek funding to support and develop scholarly activity, and support/supervise others who seek to attract funding. Provide supervision and mentorship to the nursing team, supporting them in the development of their personal research track records and research impact. Teaching and Learning Co - lead on the research-engaged teaching and the student as producer University initiatives in nursing and health-related areas. Undertake teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and carry out all related activities. Co - lead on the development of innovative and improved approaches to teaching and learning, informed by research and engagement with practice, within their own subject area(s) and across the School. Contribute to the development and implementation of learning and teaching strategies and enhancement plans within the School and across the College/University. Support and mentor colleagues to improve practice in teaching and learning and

in developing enhanced models of research-engaged and practice-informed teaching.
